spurs sign jacque vaughn and rich melzer, made offers to restricted
free agents francisco elson (nuggets are reluctant to match) and jackie butler (knicks are reluctant to match). out are rasho nestovich, nazr muhamed, nick the not-so-quick (except in deciding to shoot it), sean marks, and melvin sanders. in are matt bonner and eric williams, in a addition to the signees. not in are javtokas and scola. spurs retain their draft rights to both. what do you think? i think it's the least volatile off-seasons relating to talent levels that the spurs had in forever. ironic since the league has had quite the volatile off-season. dave |

Stuck in Houston (Katy), it's tough to get up-to-date info unless louis posts it. That's irony. So, is Marks gone? Has he signed somewhere else? Think the Spurs'll get 10pts out of the multi-headed center? Quote:
Not so much turnover. That's nice. Hopefully, Timmy's sitting by a pool with his plantar fascia above his heart, and Manu's sitting nearby. Are any of the new guys good to great shooters? Goodness knows the Spurs will need them, now that the rockettes have acquired Battier and Kirk Snyder ![]() Peter -- "There are two good teams in Texas. solid pickup IMO. does this signal an impending trade of beno? or will there be a dogfight for the backup PG spot. Quote:
never heard of him. Quote:
i dont understand the whole chicken little syndrome over at the SR boards over these guys. i think we've got a good shot at both of them, and, given this years FA selection, they're just as good as anyone else we could have gotten. dollar for dollar, these 2 guys will be a better value than nazsho. all we're really losing here is some salary, a little bit of bulk, and some fan fave bench guys. althought i thought i read soemwhere marks was coming back. Quote:
i think bonner will have some impact this season. his skillset compliments duncan pretty well. hes a perimeter player on offense. his defense and rebounding will need a TON of improvement. as far as williams, this is honestly the 1st ive heard of him since he was drafted. i have his rookie card somewhere, for what its worth..... all i know about these guys is what i get from the chicken little legion. i dont know what the deal is. both seem talented. perhaps the spurs are looking to let the bonnor / william contracts expire, get further from the tex threshhold, and offer these guys a contract next season? and dont forget the mahini guy in the summer league. well im waiting for that monster deal to go down. its been rumored anywere from 3 to 8 teams, from 5 to 16 players. other than that possibility, i see it as a pretty lame offseason. lakers got a little better. mavs made lateral cost saving moves. pistons effectively made lateral cost saving moves. heat havent done anything. the suns, depending on amares health, havent looked to improve much. theres a lot of off season to go, but i dont see any contender having made a season changing move. lee |
