And the skiing in the winter isn't too shabby either. ;-) (but finding a decent night club and good soul food will probably prove more difficult)

Finding clubs in Park City is very easy if you have money.

Why? They are on the rise with a nucleus of good young talent that barely missed the playoffs and Sloan has already said he is excited about getting Fischer.
That wasn't meant as a dig against the team, but rather the state. I've never been to Utah but from my limited knowledge it doesn't seem like the most exciting place to live.
Depends on how you feel about the outdoors and mountains. Certainly it is a spectacular place to summer vacation, highly recommended.

i drove thru utah (i-15, i-70) on my way to colorado, simply beautiful
scenery. never seen anything like it. probably better views than colorado.

State Highway 12 through the south-central (and west) part of the state
was one of Car & Driver's top 10 drives many years ago. (I haven't read
the mag since.) It's scenery and recreation that keeps a lot of people
in Utah despite the government and culture.

Some stay because of the culture i.e. family friendly and relatively safe.
The scenery in many places is indeed spectacular.

That's an odd route to get there from San Antonio!

"In the end, it all comes down to talent. You can talk all you want
about intangibles, I just don't know what that means. Talent makes
winners, not intangibles. Can nice guys win? Sure, nice guys can
win - if they're nice guys with a lot of talent. Nice guys with a
little talent finish fourth, and nice guys with no talent finish
last." -- Sandy Koufax

Not the most direct route from there either, is it? But a damned scenic
one!

Wow, moving from SA to SD is about as major of a positive move as one can
make in this country, bet you never looked back. I've really enjoyed my
handful of trips to Padre country.

is there a more direct route that includes interstate highways? it was
same route my brother took from orange county.

i let my wife plan it. i'm glad we went that way, though.

moved from san antonio to DC to houston to san diego. i liked san
antonio more than DC or houston, but san diego is the best is so many
ways. my problem with san antonio is what i call 'small potatoes'.
little companies paying meager wages. COL is low, but i'd rather make
my wealth somewhere else then retire in the hill country, just north of
SA.

steeley dan: california falls off into the sea, that's the day i move
back to annandale. (not really, i'll never live in DC again).
