and foremost, comparing the republican and democratic parties of then to
today is almost silly. The New Deal by FDR was actually a collective effort.
Most conservatives supported it. It cut government employees pay and it
re-legalized beer so that taxes on it could be collected. It created farm
subisdidies or what liberals call corporate welfare. Furthermore WW2 was
creating jobs at the time that the economy started to grow back.
