Wow, big news there. It will be interesting to see how Cantzano interprets this little gem. Skinner didn't mention any names, but I'm sure Canzano will peg Z-Bo & DMiles as the major culprits. Not that it couldn't be them, but just watch. Skinner did say "young" players, so I'm hoping at least part of it was Bassy being bummed about not being the main guy at the point & being told to slow his game down for Zach. I guess we'll soon see. Go Blazers ! |

perhaps...telfair is "young", so is outlaw or perhaps young players use to 30 games a season were just a bit worn out by the time skinner arrived. or perhaps skinner is yapping as just another bonehead jock instead of as an oracle |

I know that after 20+ playoff years this is new for you guys, but it's pretty much what happens when teams full of young players don't have a chance at winning. It happened in Chicago for years. |

....In 2001 the veteran team quit.... Miles quiting (and taking Zach with him I think) was obvious and from one game to the next. Remember when I wrote this in answer to one of your posts? It was the game when Skinner played his first game. ============================ Miles quit on Nate, I knew it the game it happened and what Nate did to trigger it the day before. I said it at the time. Nate did what we call in dog training "blow them up" too much training pressure and they quit. A sample, I was driving a team of sled dogs in a race and we are going down a hill on a fast trail at my teams best pace. The women that has the team competing for the national #1 title in our class with her speedy hound mixes blows by my siberians. Part way down the hill her leader that has the team going as fast as capable already, gets yelled at for more speed.... leader can not go faster and is already under the pressure of having the team behind her....so she 'blows-up) quits in spectacular fashion. stopping suddenly and diving back causing a monumental tangle....later in the race this musher catches up and passes me again and as we near the finish she again calls for more speed when her leader has no more to give... and this time the dog makes a gee turn at 20 MPH and leaves the nice broad groomed trail for a deer trace though the brush... I have seen it many times with horses dogs and with kids too. Ask for more than they can handle and they quit. Some have tough minds that can handle more pressure, others have to be handled differently. So I think that was what happened after the Boston game....Miles and Zach have perhaps their best overall games of the season, both play the best they are right now and they lose to Boston by a couple of great plays by a great player. The rest of the Blazers did not have good games. Instead of praising Miles and Zach for their effort and ask the others for more... Nate climbed all over Miles and Zach in front of the team to be more, to be Paul Pierce. Then he says they need to go out and get a Paul Pierce to the reporters.... Now Miles being a human is supposed to be able to reason though it and handle that pressure, but it does not always work that way. It was a coaching mistake, one made with all good intentions of pushing his best players to be better or perhaps buckling to pressure himself. Sigh... I hate this thread because I am coming off as just totally excusing Miles for the crap he pulled that was his responsibility. The guy is smart enough he likely did the last stunt on purpose to help him get out of town and used Canzano for the tool he is... |

Well, yeah, but you know my views on Miles -- we went around and around on him a few years back. Is it terribly shocking that he quit on a coach with a reputation as a hardass? Zach I'm not too fond of either, but he's not a lost cause the way Darius is. Maybe it's just me, but Zach doesn't seem like a "this is how I am and love me or hate me" type of guy. Zach will either turn it around this year or not, and if not, hopefully Isiah's still running the league landfill in New York to take him off your hands. |
