Well, with the PF suspense and whether or not Gooden will be signed, traded
or play out one year here on everyone's minds, moves are being made to get some new voices. Say adios to the PA dude in what I can only call the latest effort to make the Cavs "sound" better. Indeed, these are frightening times for those who make a living with their vocal chords at the Q. I would definitely be concerned about job security if I were a beer or hot dog vendor. http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?..._id=46370&rfi=6 Gilbert must have some Detroit buddy lined up for this job. Joe Tait is sacred........isn't he? Keith |

If Gilbert is thinking about firing Joe Tait, he needs to be reminded of the time Bo Schembechler announced that he'd decided not to renew longtime Tiger broadcaster Ernie Harwell's contract for 1992. So many people called WJR to bitch about it, their phone lines were jammed for hours. The station later admitted that they'd received the most calls that day in the history of WJR. In an unrelated story, Ernie was back in 1993. ![]() Jim |

Probably the most insane GM in basketball history, Ted Stepien fired Tait during his reign of incompetence in those forgettable years in the early 80's. The cavs were unpopular and nobdoy cared. Now things are different with a superstar and Gilbert would have to have a set of brass ones to fire Joe Tait. Keith |

Yeah, but the difference between Duncan and Reghi and Tait is that Duncan was awful and Reghi was an awful tradition, and Tait is excellent (I don't really have any experience with other radio announcers, so I can't say he's the best of the best or anything. But -- who else is there? I mean, Chick Hearn got himself a name because he was apparently good and did commentary for LA. But show me another announcer -- in any sport, in any medium -- who has a capacity for sarcasm anywhere near Joe Tait's. Tait is the only person I can think of who, no matter what the sport, no matter what the broadcast, I always think, unless it's a radio Cavs game, "This would be better if Joe Tait were doing it." Hell, I'll spend four hours on the phone if they fire Tait. But he's getting up there, and I think has had some health problems; if they want to get rid of him (and wanting to get rid of him would be so stupid it'd be evidence that Jim Paxson is somehow involved in the organization), they could probably just get him to retire, or just wait him out. -- Jeremey |

I love Tait, but there is a close second here in Phoenix named Al McCoy. He has been around since the team's inception and is a legend here. He has some corny sayings IMHO, such as Shazam for a three and the Wam Bam Slam which I think are a little over the top but fans here love him. Tait is so good that I used to listen to him at work during second shift in the late 70's when the Cavs had terrible teams. It was a pleasure just to listen to the way he painted a picture of what was going on even if the Cavs lost. For a blind man like Gordon Gund, he was the perfect announcer. Joe Tait will always be number one in my book. I don't think he's going anywhere. Keith Quote:
