3 years, $23 mil. Well, we got him for the $7+ mil that he's worth. Nice,
short contract doesn't tie us to him fro very long and makes him easily tradeable for the duration of his deal. Very nice. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2549112 -- "To see things in the seed, that is genius." --Lao-Tzu |

i was thinking the same thing about tradeability. in 2009 he's going to be very attractive to another team over the cap - kinda like magloire this upcoming season. this should start a domino effect with players like wilcox and evans, with wilcox now more likely to resign with the sonics, and evans settling for much less than the mid-level exception that he was hoping for in re-sigining with denver- unless denver manages to trade somebody and can then overpay and stay under the cap. No complaints from me about this contract - especially the length. This
gives us an easily tradeable asset, and it stops Gooden from being able to coast along, cashing in a paycheck, for the next 6 years. Clearly Gooden is hoping that in 3 years time he'll be looking at another jump up in cash, so we should have ourselves a hungry PF for the next couple of seasons. -AngusH |

This is a win for the Cavs. The article also stated my point that we will
most likely be starting the season with the same team as last year depending on players to get better. Let's hope our young talent......Brown, Varejao, Gibson, Pavlovic, Jackson, Graham, Marty improve while our older guys like Z, Marshall, Snow, Jones have better years or don't continue their declines (though Z was fairly steady last year). Lebron improving is a given. Most importantly, Hughes must remain healthy. The team played together one year and took Detroit the distance and could easily have beaten them under a first year head coach so I would expect an improvement on our 50-win season and more consistency at both ends of the court. The suspense is over. They may sign another PG like Wesley if they really feel the need. I see no reason we need a true PG since Lebron fills that role nicely and am hoping Brown is the real deal and gets more minutes on the floor with Hughes. Keith |

I agree completely. I said all along there is no way he gets $10M. Denver is smoking something with Nene's deal. |

with kenyon, nene & marcus camby they're going to get hammered when carmelo's max contract kicks in, and they're going to have to resign andre miller (currently making $8 mil) or move him in a sign & trade. somebody's already suggesting that varejao should be able to command a contract starting at least $7mil at year in 2007. i don't see where the money is going to come from though. I don't either. It was one of the things I was concerned about when they signed Gooden. Of the two, I think Varejao may have more upside for our style of play, though they are two completely different players. I cannot see Varejao commanding that kind of money unless he starts, becomes a bigger offensive force, NBA first team defense, averages 10+ rebounds per game. His style of play leads to injuries. He has yet to be healthy a full season. Keith |
