Default Waivers?

Trading of players past the last deadline is extremely confusing.
Shawn Green for instance was just traded to the Mets. How come no team
"blocked" this deal?

I find that no teams seem to ever block trades?

Thanks

in most cases, it won't be done simply because teams don't want it done to
them in the future.

Now that would make sense because some decent players are being dealt
and I really can't imagine teams that are close would let some of these
guys thru without a fight.

I suspect (although I;ve been surprised before) if a deal were made to send
Soriano to Detroit tomorrow, the Twins or W Sox would jump in . . .

Here's a link to how the waiver process works. Any player traded after
the deadline must clear waivers first.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2006/...r_trade_ru.html

It's not a matter of "blocking" the trade. For the 47 hours that the
player is available on waivers, any team can make a claim on him. Once a
claim is made, the original team can either trade the player to the team
that claimed him, "dump" the player and his salary on the team that
claimed him (and get nothing in return), or withdraw the player from the
waiver wire. If they withdraw the player, they can't trade him for 30 days.

So, if any team had decided to put a claim in on Shawn Green while he
was on waivers (to try to block the Mets or whoever from getting him),
they would have to accept the possibility that the Dodgers would just
dump him and his 8 million dollar salary on them.

I guess I'm a little behind on the whereabouts of the ex-Jays. He did
play for the Dodgers though at one point, right? I'm not completely off?

November 8, 1999: Traded by the Toronto Blue Jays with Jorge Nunez (minors)
to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Pedro Borbon and Raul Mondesi.
