I have heard nothing and can only assume , if true, that he was a
free-agent to whom the transfer window doesn't apply and he signed
after Thursday night therby "sneaking in".

Nah, he signed the same day as Hysen, but the lazy French FA couldn't be
bothered to get his international registration through in time for the WBA
game. According to the Echo, at least. He seems to have been forgotten in
the wake of all the new boys.
