Anyone want to start speculating on Kenny's off-season moves?
We got outplayed. Still, I'd rather take it down to the last week of the season than give up in May. We'll hope for more next year. -- __o Kristian Zoerhoff _'\(,_ kristian.zoerhoff@gmail.com (_)/ (_) |

I agree, the 'pen was suspect all season. I think MacDougal will actually turn out well over the long term, but McCarthy and Logan were simply overmatched at the Major League level. Cotts has always been iffy, and I think he's just not cut out for this level, either. It's all a shame, really. I don't know what happened to Politte, and Hermanson doesn't look like he'll ever be the same. So, MacDougal, Thornton, Jenks. That leaves a lot of holes, and that's before we address Contreras (how bad is the injury?) and Vasquez (who I think is actually pretty good, but not quite good enough for this division). And then there's what to do in center and left. -- __o Kristian Zoerhoff _'\(,_ kristian.zoerhoff@gmail.com (_)/ (_) |

A bad second half done the Sox in, all they had to do was play .500 after
the break to get in. From my perspective the bull pen, except for Jenks needs some major, major help. From Cliffy's collapse to Cott's batting practice pitches, to the Logan experiment and McCarthy doesn't fit the pen to who-knows-what-were-get from the mid season acquisitions McDougal, Riske & Thornton. With all that we said don't have a spec of middle relief and only 1 respectable setup man Thornton. The pens version of a hold all season long was hoping we had a 3-4 run cushion so we could deplete the pen to take a 1 run win. I can't blame the starting pitching or the hitting because they will both hit their rough spots during 162 games, but except for a week or so the pen was a rough spot all season...... look at the teams that got in, swap pens with them and we'd be in and they would be typing this disappointing post. Dougal is a still a little too wild for me, I don't have enough appendages
on my body to count how many times he was brought in with the game close and tossed a lead-off walk. Isn't that why Seattle let him go? If there is a sleeper in the pen for next year it may be Hermanson, he should go pretty cheap. Not sure what KW has in mind but 8-9-1 has been terrible offensively all year throw in the sub-par defense, including Mac when he plays for our 9 hole hitter, and something has to be done. I'd like to see us keep Pods as a 4th outfielder and go hard after Soriano (I know I'm dreaming) and platoon Uribe and Cintron instead of Mac & Andersen. So from my pc that's a tall order, rebuild the pen and sign the premier free agent available for the 07 season, but hey who thought 05 would turn out as it did.... it'll take some bold moves if KW about serious in owning baseball in Chicago. Blame it all on Mariotti!
It was a half season lapse of morale problems. How else do you go from well into first place before the AS break - to a bunch of losers? "Kristian M Zoerhoff" <kristian.zoerhoff@gmail.com> wrote in message news:MPG.1f82535c94f1186d98974e@news.chi.sbcglobal .net... Quote:
