Jason Hirsch won't start another regular season game this year.

It was good to see all the starters get a hit yesterday (except Pettitte).
SHUT UP, DOOD! SHUT UP!!!! <you're gonna screw this up if you keep talking about it...>
From a Cardinal fan ... Funny! Isn't baseball weird with this type of superstition? If anybody is doing anything great, the superstition is to IGNORE it for fear that you'll ruin it. A pitcher throwing a no-hitter is treated like a pariah in the dugout. He sits by himself and nobody talks to him. When a hitter is about to hit for the cycle, nobody is going to remind him of that. Nobody is going to say, "If you can hit a triple, you have the cycle!" Having said that, I'd like to say ... Congratulations on your incredible win streak! If you can just keep it up you can probably win the Division! Oswalt is pitching so well! David Emerling Memphis, TN

You realize the Weauf Gods recognize a reverse-Weauf attempt, right?

I'm having a love/hate relationship with the way this season is winding
down.

As a Cardinal fan, in some very perverted way, I am enjoying this more than
had the Cardinals coasted to a 1st place finish with an 8-game margin. Well,
I'm not so much "enjoying" it as I am finding it *interesting*!

I'm riveted to each game, every inning, every pitch. Hell, I'm even logging
on to Gameday and watching the Astros games, cursing the Pirates for walking
so many batters. And then I got angry that the Pirates put in a pitcher
named Sharpless. I screamed out, "How can a guy with *that* name expect to
shut down this Astro offense!?"

Ordinarily, I would not be nearly this interested. I would normally monitor
the last few games, mostly out of habit, and be content to wait for the
beginning of the post-season.

Not now!

You guys have turned this into a spectacular show of historic consequences.

The Cardinals are positioning themselves to outdo the '64 Phillies for one
of baseball's greatest collapses. But I have to give the Astros credit. The
Cardinals could actually have afforded such a collapse had the Astros
managed anything remotely close .500 baseball for the balance of the season.

The sad thing is this: whoever comes is 2nd place in the Central, whether it
be the Astros or the Cardinals, is going to sit the postseason out. I don't
see a wildcard berth for anybody in the Central - although, at the time, I
believe it is still mathematically possible.

Good luck!

Hell, who am I kidding? Get your ass kicked - for a change!
