I don't know that they do, but I do know that I've heard rumblings that they were going to try to move him and I know that they likely won't win with Greg Zaughn behind the plate either. At this point, he's a poor hitter who can't catch. If they move him, you gotta think they have something in the pipeline. So, give it a shot by giving them a catcher they need and an OF as insurance against their replacement. A #3 hitter with power AND average who also happens to play gold glove defense in CF would fill a lot of holes here, and would probably add a few HRs and a boatload of AVG to Dunn if he got to hit 2nd. To me, Deno is interchangeable for Freel in OF and he comes for over $2M less. He's a good defender and he's got just as much speed. Hopefully, he's a better baserunner and more durable. Freel strikes out a lot, maybe deno would do so less. At the moment, Freel has to have more value in trade, but I gotta think the window is short for the scrappy guy approaching 30 who hurts a lot of body parts every year. I have to think Freel is going to get old baseball wise sooner than most. |

Out of curiosity - how often has Jr's ego really been shown? Or is it just rumor and conjecture? I often see it coming out of the mouths (fingers) of the fan and not necessarily the media. Of course I could be wrong. :-) |

If you read the stories this year, he has positively bristled each and every time someone has mentioned moving from CF, and even when asked about moving out of the 3 spot. Listen to how he answers those questions. Remember the week when he stopped talking to the media and made those diving catches because he was mad at something somebody said on some radio talk show? It has been written that some of the perks he had when he got here mirrored Bonds in bravado. You don't get to be the best player in the game without a healthy dose of ego, and Jr has plenty. One of the bummer things is that I think AD has learned some of his ways from JR. Remember the Miley chair incident? |
