Not the point I was making, but at least you're on the right track. The Twins did what they could to control their destiny, they played good ball when it mattered most, to get enough wins amassed to take the AL Central title. While on the other hand, the Tigers collapsed and played horrible when it counted the most (i.e. during final stretch of the season), and just gave away waht *could* have been theirs. Whether or not the Twins grabbed *it*, it's fact that they grabbed just enough to take the title from the Tigers. As a Twins fan, I'm ecstatic that they pulled it off. As a Tigers fan, I can understand your frustration and sour grapes, John. So close....but yet so far. ;-) |

Never mind Poutre, he's still in a state of denial about the whole thing, and more than a little sensitive right now. ;-) |

I somewhat agree with the word "magic". There certainly was a mystique about the team, almost as though the baseball gods were with them. However, added with a little luck and a lot of sure talent, I believe that they were unstoppable. I'd like to see the Tigers beat the Yankees, although even before tonight I had some serious doubts. The thunder of the central division went to the Twins, who will undoubtedly fall (at best) in five to the A's, that if the Twins can get another shot with Santana. |

Cotts was a disappointment because he seemed to have lost confidence. I would never trade Buerhle, and Contreras - as well as the rest of the starters need to stay out of any Winter leagues to recover from their worn out arms. Wih Bobby, I think that the rest of the league has fianlly learned to key-in on him. Fireballer or not, he's got to learn a knuckleball type of change-up. Quote:
I hadn't seen (visually) much of Thornton. I'll hope that he's ready for some more development. Quote:
Good point, but from the beginning Crede showed the essence of a gold glove (unlike Ventura) with minimal clobber. He's truly very astute at third base and it has finally paid off with his bat. At the time, I also liked Jeff Liefer in left or right field. With Anderson, I'd see what he does in Spring training and make a certain decision (which might ultimately require shipping him off with some reasoned bucks) along with another decent middle reliever for a recognized center fielder. Not necessarily a power hitter, but a decent lead off man (speed). And then there's Scotty. His iode seems to have gotten a little carboned-up. Hopefully he'll get into the proper exercise program because of his age and play more like a Ricky Henderson (but I'm only dreaming). Quote:

Just beat the Yanks and shut up. That should satisfy a lot of funked up W.S. fans who I suspect might have been righteously characterized by lipAs. Including the Crawbaby. After that, say "Hello Goodbye" in Oakland. |

Are you lurking again Steve?
Every once in-a-while you participate in some decent posts and then you disappear for a month or two. Have you got another 'lady' - on the sly? We lost this 'one' (season). And I was a-l-w-a-y-s here cheering these south-siders. Why in Earth would I want to play Jeff Alsip as another personality? Jekyl and Hyde? I certainly wouldn't gloat on our losses because I believed (as A.J. prescribed). Fortunately I guess, the best team in baseball isn't in the post-season. Because if they were, they'd be in high gear. Of course there are some here that think otherwise about who is the best team. |
