I have a feeling they told McPhail to fire Hendry and return to the GM
position but he didn't want to do it. Of course that is completely a guess. Major Drunkdey wrote: Quote:

I think it surprised almost everyone although it seemed implausible to me that the Trib wouldn't insist on changes above Baker. The press never reported that MacPhail and/or Hendry were in trouble and the press drives the dialogue. Sad IMO I thought this was going to be a pivotal year. When MacPhail extended Hendry's contract in the spring, he was not so much making Hendry the GM through 2008 as tying his own fate to Hendry's. ray heitmann |

I found that to be the funniest thing on TV yesterday.. Fittzie of the
Trib announcing before his selection of McDonough or is that Mc DonoDOUGH? Fitzie stated this is not about marketing.. it is about winning.. so he hires the Marketing manager.. Hendry is safe.. after all he is a STOOGE.. not some one wanting to go out and get top notch players.. cuz that would cost BUCKS.. and the TRIB.. since there has been a lot of talk bout selling the CUBS.. heck.. all the folks ( not fans) folks that went to the games helped it out to be a very very rich franchise. 3,100,000 Plus fans for a DEAD LAST TEAM in the NL.. amazin' Why do you think things will change? I can not see Sweet Lou here cuz he would want some control.. that will not happen.. Giradi? Very possible.. he is only a rookie manager.. he does not have the clout or the marquee name to say.. GET ME THIS BALL PLAYER or PLAYER Yep, I do not see much difference from this year to next as long as your only MARKETING the team and not wanting the team to WIN Just different faces going through the motion is all Jim "Von Fourche" <khonakong@hotmail.com> wrote: Quote:

Don't get me wrong because I'm totally with you on your sentiments about Hendry. Of all the incompetents in Cubdum, he just may be the worst. However, I wouldn't agree that he is safe. I think that once a new regime is in place, he'll be the first to go. I get the feeling that TribKo is about to divest itself of the Cubs. Shoving MacPhail out for a place holder may have been part of the preparation for the unloading. The next new prez will likely axe Jimbo and appoint someone else. But then again, considering the bumbling history of this organisation, anything can happen. -- barutanseijin@gmail.com |

You do realize you basically contradicted yourself with those two paragraphs. Unless you also think that Baker did not have the clout to say "GET ME THIS BALL PLAYER or PLAYER"? G -- Chaos Digest: an oasis of information... we think <http://www.chaosdigest.com/> |
