What are Jones numbers? If they're going to get Lee it would be to replace Jones as far as I'm concerned. Murton deserves a full shot in 07. |

Absolutely - Murton may very well continue to grow into a power hitter - like Sandberg & Palmeiro. ----== Posted via Newsfeeds.Com - Unlimited-Unrestricted-Secure Usenet News==---- http://www.newsfeeds.com The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! 120,000+ Newsgroups ----= East and West-Coast Server Farms - Total Privacy via Encryption =---- |

Jones is signed for 2 more years. Only two teams had interest in Jones when he was a free agent last season, so that contract may be difficult to unload (but not impossible). Also, my contention is that Lee is overrated and not worth signing to a long term deal worth 13-15M per. His production is not that much higher than Jones at more than double the salary. |

He can be released or relegated to the bench. One key point to remember is that this offseason the Cubs don't have to behave in a consistent conservative way. Showing the fans they want to win takes precedence over defending past decisions. ray heitmann |

Well, like it or not (or like him or not), Jones put up good (not great) numbers this year. I've never truly understood the concept that some posters here advocate about 'selling' a player at 'peak' value before... at least until this year. If this is not a clear case of it, I don't know what is. Jones has likely had his best year ever, but we need more/better offensive output in the outfield (especially). Some more teams have *got* to be interested in him after this year, and Hendry may be able to get some real value for him.
