P.S. My spreadsheet was counting stuff like player 14 at PF and 15 at C as being a different lineup from 15 at PF and 14 at C. When I correct for that, I come out with 975 too.
Thank god for that. I'm putting the matter to rest.

These are different lineups (permutations, not combinations) by my understanding of the term, so by my interpretation, 1995 is the correct answer.
As long as we're talking about the same thing, I don't think it matters too much. But I respectfully disagree: when Tim Duncan is on the floor with Robert Horry, it makes no difference which one gets tagged as the center and which as the PF.

I do appreciate all the mental prowess applied. Skipping over how we
got there for obvious reasons, I'll happily accept a number somewhere
*between 1k and 2k* for possible lineups now bouncing around
dangerously inside Skiles brain.

Using nothing other than cave man calculus, that's enough lineups to
introduce a wobble in Skiles mental trajectory serious enough to wear
his CV joints out pretty quick.

Skiles has already strained within the bounds of convention, running
3PG, a SF, and whatever Sweet Knees is. Or maybe I just imagined that
lineup last season...

Generally though, the players like to know where they are supposed to
be on the court...right?

Or are we embarking on a whole new paradigm of position-less bball?
Going beyond the triangle to the pentangle?
Perpetual motion offense?
Beyond man to man, beyond zone, to the quantum matchup?

As long as you don't mention my name for googling purposes, it should be
cool that I contribute occasionally -- not as much as before, since I have a
real job and everything. But for the record, I haven't heard anything about
the Bulls that might interest anyone here, but I have some dirt on the
Nuggets that would leave you writhing on the ground helplessly in
schadenfreude. Abg ernyyl. Gurl'er xrrcvat zr zbfgyl bhg bs gur qveg ybbc.
