Default Harang

1st in wins
1st in K's
1st in CG
3rd in shutouts
3rd in innings pitched
11th in ERA.

If he hadn't had a poor time of it down the stretch and had another
win or two, do you think he'd be the CY lock, or does the era and HRs
bring him down?

Do you think he's even in the top 5 votes-wise?

My guess is no.

At this point, I don't have the slightest idea who's the favorite for
NL CY. My eyes tell me what Zambrano did was pretty good for such a
lousy team, but those types don't win anymore.

Is it Carpenter by default since he's in the playoffs?

In Davids preseason poll, I picked Oswalt, Webb and Harang among my
top 5 to win NL Cy Young. If Webb hadn't been pounded in his final
start he might have pulled it out. If he pitches well and picks up the
win he probably leads the league in wins outright and ERA. Oswalt has
15 wins and the ERA title. So it will probably be Carpenter.

Trevor Hoffman might sneak in if the voters are split among the starter
candidates.

I hope Harang and/or Arroyo get at least a vote from somebody.

No. I read a similar post in the Braves' group regarding John Smoltz.
In those same categories, he is 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 4th and 7th; he's in
the same group with about six other guys (including Arroyo as well).
Anyway, what kills Harang is that he's just 23rd in Quality Starts; half
of his trips out, he didn't qualify, and that's not helping his case.

I'm going to go with Oswalt. He matches Carpenter in record (15-8) and
innings pitched, and is the on NL starter with an ERA under 3.00.
Still, you could put his name in a hat along with Carpenter and Webb and
not choose poorly.
