I've been reading that the free agent compensation will be a thing of the
past.
Any confirmation on this.
Good or bad?

I dont' see any reason to keep White around and if another outfielder could
be gotten, (moieses alou) I'd let Delucci and Conine go also.

Well, the current collective bargaining agreement expires sometimes this
December. From what I've heard, during recent collective bargaining
sessions (back in August, I think), the players' union agreed to eliminate
draft pick compensation. As of now, there hasn't been a CBA extension or
new agreement achieved... they're still negotiating. So right now, the loss
of FA compensation isn't certain (or "official") yet, but highly likely.

Several years ago the A's lost several free agents and as a result got I
think 4 sandwich picks. Phils might lose about the same number of free
agents this year and could have possibly gotten 3 or 4 sandwich picks this
year. But I guess then they have to sign them and pay the bonuses.
