Default Lots of boos by the crowd in St. Louis today

Heard significant numbers of boos by the self-proclaimed "best fans in
baseball" on the TV broadcast of today's game.

Of course the rich people who get playoff tickets tend not to be
representative of a team's fans as a whole.

Many boos occurred when a Cardinal was out. Spoiled "fans" shouldn't
attend games if they get their knickers in a twist over an out. The
reality is teams sometimes lose games, and the other team's players can
have great days, as was the case with the San Diego pitcher today.

Some boos occurred after umps called strikes against Cardinal batters
and balls against Cardinal pitchers; not sure if they were booing the
players or the umps, but the boos sounded lame.

Have heard claims Izzy got a lot of boos in pregame intros. Had I been
at the game, I would have not clapped for Izzy, but would not have
booed him either.

Man, did you see that first pitch to Pujols in his last at-bat? Too high!
WAY high!

I'm not usually one to complain about things like this - but it wasn't even
close. That was an "Eric Gregg" strike.

Yeah, 6 inches too high according to the ESPN announcers and that strike
zone indicator thing.

Like I've said before - it's time to replace umpires with robots.

Anyway, to the original poster, why shouldn't the fans boo today? The
Cardinals played pretty badly, they would have gotten shut out except for a
home run by Taguchi. Granted a lot of it might have to do with the
umpiring, but there were a lot of swinging at pitches out of the strike
zone. And swings at early pitches (like first and second pitches).

The trouble with this team is that really, other than Pujols, everyone
stinks (or is average). Pujols is probably the only thing keeping this team
from a 100 loss season, and when he doesn't have a good day (like today) the
Cardinals don't do much.

And conversely, the starting pitching stank today. Suppan got shelled. He
was lucky to only have given up 3 runs. Very much a Marquis like effort. No
wonder he got booed.

Furthermore, losing today is potentially catastrophic. Carpenter was good
in his last start, but his fastball lost about 7-8 mph during the game. He
was hitting 95 or so at the start, and around 87-88 in the 7th.

Clearly he no longer has the stamina he had earlier in the season. He runs
a very good risk of not being 100% tomorrow, and he's probably going to get
shelled. Which means the series will go back to SD and be on the shoulders
of Weaver. Which is scary.

All fans boo something. I boo'd SD (and then mischeviously grinned)
when they failed to score in the first inning with nobody out and
runners on 2nd and 3rd. Nice throw Yadier. ;-)

I also applauded the play of the Tigers, pointed and laughed at
ARod, and sacrificed some kind of burnt offering (it might have been
toast) to the baseball gods thanking them for allowing the Tigers to
take out the Yankees. All my favorite college football teams won
too, so even though the Cardinals lost, we're still in good shape
with Carpenter going tomorrow. It was an okay day today, and a
better one tomorrow I hope.

Not even close to as scary as it *could* be if Marquis got the ball.

True, that strike call was awful, and the ump indeed deserved to be
booed on that pitch. Thought that high pitch would be a no-brainer
ball. But I heard boos for pitches that seemed on the border of the
strike zone according to the TV graphic, pitches that could be called
either way. Late in the game, the shade would make it difficult for
many fans to tell the pitch locations.

Perhaps Piazza is good at influencing the ump by moving his glove into
the strike zone.

The bullpen has been very good this series, so if Carpenter shows signs
of fatigue, we can pull him without the regular season fears of a blown
lead. Maybe the Cardinal offense will explode today, making up for any
imperfect pitching/defense.

Pujols is worth 22 wins a season? Call the record keepers.
