More Info from S.&T.
Several of their future cornerstones such as Francisco Liriano, Boof Bonser, Glen Perkins, Pat Neshek and Jesse Crain are all under control, making salaries of about $375,000 next year. And they've already addressed two of their heart-and-soul characters -- Reyes and Mike Redmond -- with two-year extensions. With Radke, Shannon Stewart and Kyle Lohse coming off the books, that's a $20 million savings. But Santana's salary jumps by $3 million (to $12 million next year), Nathan's jumps by $1.5 million, and the arbitration-eligible players will gobble up the rest of the savings quickly. So it's uncertain how much room General Manager Terry Ryan will have to add a left fielder or a veteran pitcher to replace Radke. Good guys to still have under contract. No complaints there. Quote:
That is a nice chunk of money to have ready to allocate to new contracts/options and the free agent market! And besides Radke, none of those are huge losses, IMO. Quote:
That's a tough call. It would be nice to see Torii finish his career as a Twin, but that's a lot of money. Is he still worth that amount? Quote:
Depends on what the free agent market has to offer as a replacement for Silva. Quote:
White is a maybe, the rest can go. Quote:
Time to offer some reward to Mauer and Punto at least. Possibly Cuddyer as well. Quote:
Liriano, Bartlett, Bonser, Garza, Neshek all need to be retained. The rest are debatable, IMO. - Scott Smith: scott@sludgereport.org Book Blog: http://scottsbooks.blogspot.com Blue States Rising: http://www.bluestaterising.blogspot.com |
