Which really does once again blow the shit out of that tired, welfare mentality mantra about payroll, payroll, payroll.
No it doesn't. Does anyone doubt that the Marlins would have been a better team if they could have kept some of the fine players (e.g., LoDuca) who have helped other teams. Does anyone really think that the A's play Beaneball because they like to. The Tigers will have a hard time keeping all they guys they have if they keep winning and want a reasonable payroll.

OK, but who said the Tigers want to have a "reasonable payroll"?? Ilitch
will pay what it takes to win.

Payroll matters. Paying twice what other teams pay their players basically assures the Yanks they win their division. But getting in the playoffs only assures that like anyone else they can lose in a short series to great pitching. But the large payrolls gives them a guaranteed invitation. Bill, he absolutely will have the chance. Others with similar chances
have let money dictate non-signings. I have no idea about Ilitch. If he
wants a serious contender for a lot of years, her certainly has the
right nucleus.

obviously. I'll give you a big clue to help you out. He is the owner of the
Detroit Red Wings.

Thanks Bill, before the strike when I gave up professional hockey, I
thought this franchise was very well run and certainly not fiscally
constrained. Good thing too for the long suffering Detroit fans.
