Torre has always seemed like an okay guy and all, but is their *any*excuse not to be hugely successful with the teams he's been given? Inother words, were the last umpteen years in New York a real test of hismanagerial ability?
Well, it's not as if he carried the Braves to greatness, but at least you know he's not an impediment to winning. To be honest, that's about all I expect out of a manager. -- Greg Lentz

Again at 66 torre part of Giants youth movement. He grew up as a young man

Yes. He's had a bad stretch in NY, but not, so far as I can tell, due
to poor game management skills a la Baker. He's a class act, though I
have to wonder if he'd even consider managing a Sabean roster.

Yes, exactly. A manger is like a choreograoher. They dictate who plays
where. They don't put on gloves or pick up a bat. Its really up to the
players to produce.

It was luck or something, but he had a nice run of success immediately after taking over for Showalter. People were pitying silly Torre for accepting the job.

Okay, you mentioned Showalter, so I will say it. I pick the Rangers to win
the world series next year. Based on the fact that the last two teams that
Show was fired from, won the following year. 96 Yankees, 01 Dbacks.

I guess the thing to do is hire Showalter for a year, then go all the
way in '08.

Show me the water!!!

See, some Zen master would tell you that water is equivalent to the holy
grail, and holy grail in baseball is the WS. So, hire Show-water!
