Tough to pick. I liked both Mark Bellhorn and Rich Garces an
awful lot though...

As I think about it, since the mid-90s, I think my favorite
players have always been guys whose baseball talents were, I
thought, underappreciated. Bellhorn, Garces, Lowe for a long
while, John Valentin... it's probably why I'm usually more
of a Manny Ramirez fan than a David Ortiz fan, or why I root
for players like BH Kim and Matt Clement, why I liked Scott
Hatteberg more than I will ever like Jason Varitek, and so on.
It's why I want more people to know about how good Frank
Sullivan and Bob Stanley were. It's why I loved the Mike
Stanley/Reggie Jefferson platoon. It's why I root for Lenny
DiNardo and Manny Delcarmen. It's why I DID root for Bronson
Arroyo... until the general public figured out that he was
pretty good, at which point I stopped enjoying his successes
as much. That probably speaks a lot about my own silliness,
that I often like players for whom I can feel like an insider
for knowing how good they are, or at least how much better than
other people think they are.

Catch you later.
