I loved Tiger Stadium. I remember going there for my first time in
1985. The year after they won the world series. Was amazing as 12 year old boy with his dad. Walking inside seeing nothing but blue and a few orange seats. And the greenest grass I have had ever seen. And getting to learn all about it's history. And all the great players that had played there. I was kinda like many that were bummed that they were gonna build a new field. Because Tiger Stadium was unique and I had so many memories going there. Yeah sure those huge view blocking pillars got in the way. But that was part of being there. And it was old....really old. But with that all that history as well. Especially 1968 and 1984. Not to mention 1987. One of the best last weeks in baseball ever. With Detroit winning by a 1/2 a game over the Toronto Blue Jays......amazing. I love Comerica Park from the day I saw it in person. My friend and I were in Detroit one day in March of 2000 and decided to drive over to see it. Just walking around it was pretty impressive. The brick and steel. We were in awe and couldn't wait to come to a game. It got us excited. The first time I went a game was cool as hell. That frickin' huge scoreboard was awesome. And that massive tiger outside the main gate was brilliant. And the years went on just as the years before. And the Tigers just never put it together. And I always thought about the Tigers and all them years they were always in the pennant chase. Wishing and hoping that one day this new home of the Tigers would get to become that new home of successful memories. It looks like that day has come in 2006. And October baseball has finally come home to Detroit....the same super-charged motor that of this years Tiger's team. But in an all new slick body.....Comerica Park. |
