Beat Detroit!
If we beat Detroit, we get to play in the World Series. That'd be really
cool. Especially since I dislike Rupert Murdoch and what he's done to American media; his Fox network will take a pounding if my A's play in the World Series. There's really no end of reasons to root for the green and gold. This homer says Oakland in six. Beat Detroit! Shooty

Okay, well that kind of sucked. We put 15 on base but only brought 1 in.
Not good. Zito also was not good, yielding 5 without completing 4 innings. We're allowed to lose 3 this series, but that's not a rule one wants to test. I will take (extremely small) comfort in the fact that in each of the past four ALCS, the game 1 loser went on to win the series: 2005: White Sox lose Game 1 to Angels 3-2, but win series in 5. 2004: Red Sox lose Game 1 to Yankees 10-7, but win series in 7. 2003: Yankees lose Game 1 to Red Sox 5-2, but win series in 7. 2002: Angels lose Game 1 to Twins 201, but win series in 5.
