Well, you could hire someone who already has a job that they're doing
well at, but it seems a bit unlikely. Anyone else could be described
as retread or unproven.

Another article mentions that the Giants are interested in 2 of the Mets
coaches - Jerry Manuel and Manny Acta. It also mentioned that Pinella may
hold off on signing this season, since Torre's contract is up at the end,
and he really wants the Yankee job.

Sabean was on KNBR last weekish and said something to the effect of
they can't speak to certain people at the top of their list because
those people are involved with the playoffs right now.

I'd add Ron Washington to the short list...
