Default Chambliss is history...

I thought their hitting approach improved early on as well. I would like to have seen Chambliss develop a hitter or two. Good hitting coaches cannot overreact when a guy throws up an 0-12. But there is nothing wrong with some fine tuning once in awhile. Over the course of 162, a hitter can fall into some bad habits. I'm not saying Chambliss didn't do those things, I just don't see a helluva lot of evidence of it. So I think it was probably time for a change. I think Hume should have joined him.

I can't believe Hume gets to stay, even as bullpen coach.

Must've been Chambliss fault that the offense tanked. If KGS gets the job, then we know who the CF and #3 spot will likely be. Just as significant is they are going to hire a pitching coach. This is a real positive for me. Hume and Berry both survived. I thought both would be gone.

I think Berry was the only guy Miley actually got to hire, wasn't he?

IU understand the fascination, but I simply can't imagine why Lou Piniella would WANT to come to Cincy in anything more than a full manager's position working for a GM and an owner who will give him tremendous leeway. Sure Lou won a series here and the owner seems to talk the same language, but .... Lou had some less than kind things to say about Junior when Junior started to get hurt. There is NOTHING left of the team or the organization that was here when Lou was around. I guess Billy Hatcher as one of the coaches null and voids, that statement from being entirely true, but...well, that's the only linkage I can see.

Maybe Hume?

He's not going to come to town to play patty-cake. If Piniella is around it means he's waiting to take over while the make Narron the fall guy for this year's (meaning 2007) failures. If this management team is already thinking that way, we might as well all just start rooting for the cardinals.

I was just speculating out loud. I don't think he'd come here just to
be a hitting coach either.

I'm going to hope that's your way of stashing Lou in a Reds uni until
Narron shoots his own foot off. Otherwise, that would be like bringing
back Sparky to pitch BP.

I can't tell, but it doesn't look like it. Only thing I could find
was a blurb about where he promoted Berry to bench coach upon his
arrival, but it said he'd been in the org for 7 years prior to that.
Maybe in the pen?

Then when the interim tag was removed, another article about how the
staff was pretty much set, but he had to hire a 1B and 3B coach.

Did he put Berry at 3b and put somebody else on the bench?

And did he hire the 1B guy who left before the beginning of this
season (name excapes me)?

I think he was a minor league manager at one time. Was he the bullpen
catcher in the majors when Miley was hired? I can't remember now. For some
reason, probably the fact Miley made him his bench coach right away, I had
this memory of the two of them being close (at least professionally).

O'Brien hired Narron to be bench coach...

Coaching staff clarifications:

The coach that quit was John Moses. He was elevated to the MLB staff as
bench coach to replace Narron. He was the minor league OF/baserunning
coordinator.

Chambliss was hired away from the Mets in Dec. 2003. Was hitting coach for
the Yankees in the late 90's before Steinbrenner axed him.

Berry was a career minor C/3B. He played 543 minol league games and all but
107 of them were at A ball. He managed for 7 years in the Reds organization
(506-463) and Southern League Manager of the Year in 1996 (The Lookouts were
81-59 that season)

Yes, Moses was the name I was thinking of.
