Default Let Me Be the First to Say It...

....Blackjet is a genius.

No, seriously, I think the Mets should start Maine tonight and Glavine in
Game Two.

Whoever pitches tonight is going to have to come back on three days rest on
Monday -- and could very well be ineffective for that start. Considering
how bad Glavine has been on short rest throughout his career, it seems to me
that the Mets would be better served by having him give two quality starts
on regular rest than one quality start and one potentially disastrous one.
At the end of the day, I don't see what the Mets gain by using Glavine on
short rest, when his career numbers suggest he can't do it effectively.

Moreover, if Glavine were to falter in a Game Five start on three days rest,
that would put the remaining games of the series in the hands of Maine and
Trachsel; conversely, if Maine were to lose a Game Five, the Mets would have
Glavine, with his regular four days rest, available for Game Six.

With the current state of the rotation, I think Glavine is as close to an
ace as the Mets have. They shouldn't waste his second start by pitching him
on short rest when other options are available.

You're dead right. It would be suicide.
