Hoover points out the Padres have been in the playoffs 5 times in their
NL history, and 4 times the manager was Bruce Bochy.

According to Hoover, Bochy had four chances to get the job done. Ask
yourself this, in the four chances did Bochy win the World Series? NO NO NO
NO NO NO !!!!

K2 points out the Padres have been horrible on fundamentals for years.

Ask yourself, who manages the team? Who is responsible to monitor the
fundaments and bring the team up to world class playing level? The guy that
sells the tickets? The guy the sells the hot dogs? NO NO NO ..... It is
Bochy's job. No one else's.

Bochy has had four chances and he has failed on all occasions. If Bochy
can't manage the team and find the players to bring the team's fundaments up
in four tries, then fire the guy.

HE JUST CANNOT GET IT DONE. HE IS A FAILURE.

I bet you wish you had a nickel for every time you heard your parents say
that.

I'm just wondering how the manager is supposed to "monitor the
fundaments"....

Simple, you watch the team to see if they perform the fundamentals. If the
team is lacking, you do like Steinbrenner does. You buy players that do.

Spend $200 million and manage to wind up with two decent starting pitchers
and no bullpen?

Brilliant idea, Captain Fucktard.

Okay Mr. SmartAss.. Try to get past this one.

Since Steinbrenner brought in 1973, the Yankees have won the World Series?

Since Steinbrenner, the Yankees have won the World Series SIX times.
THEY WON SIX TIMES !!

How many times have the Padres won the World Series?

HOW MANY TIMES ? TELL ME.. TELL ME

ZERO TIMES... ZERO TIMES

Steinbrenner knows what he is doing.

Badlands... you do NOT have a leg to stand on. YOU SHUT UP!

Yes they have. Your grasp on history is immutable. If only there WAS
a mute button.

Bully for them. 34 years and six trophies. What, pray tell, does that
really prove? Since 1997, the Florida Marlins have won twice, which is
a better frequency. Nobody is touting their business model.

Does he? How do you figure? Since their last World Series win in
2000, they have appeared twice, losing both times. One loss was to the
Florida Marlins, the other to the Arizona Flea Bags. What's worse is
in 2002 and 2005, they were eliminated by the Angels in the first round
of the playoffs. Only in 2004 did they lose to a team (Boston Red Sox)
who had a comparable salary base.

Actually, cowboy, your barstool is the one that looks a bit suspect.
Your argument is that The Boss knows how to buy the players with the
best "fundaments." Derek Jeter is the one player on that squad who
supports that argument. How about the highest paid player on your
squad? Yankees fans can't say enough about A-rod's "fundaments." In
fact, they can't say anything at all--nothing good, at least. How
about Giambi? If, by fundaments, you mean "performance-enhancing
drugs," I'll concede that. Of course, I suspect you meant hitting,
fielding, baserunning, throwing, and to that I say one out of four
ain't bad. Sheffield? Nice, if all you need is a DH. Damon? You can
claim scoreboard in that the Red Sox didn't make the playoffs this
year, but that's hardly improving your "fundaments." Don't get me
started on that pitching staff.

Steinbrenner does a bang-up job of throwing money out there to pick up
the bigest names possible. So, too, does every Yahoo! with a
rotisserie baseball team. Every owner should be so lucky to have 50
years (then) of collateral against which they can cash checks.

The accolades should go to the GMs like Beane, Schuerholtz (or however
he chooses to spell it), and whoever they have working in Minnesota who
are capable of fielding a quality and entertaining baseball franchise
without sinking the GNP of 80% of developed countries.
