Recent additions to the AAA River Cats from AA Midland, Chris Mabeus (well,
not that recent--early June), and A Kane County, Jairo Garcia, both pitched
in relief today. Boy, do they look impressive. Both have outstanding
strikeout rates (more than 1 per inning), and Garcia is only 21 years old
(Mabeus is 24). Even though they just got called up to AAA, I wouldn't be
surprised to see them get September call-ups in Oakland.

Former prospect, until the Rangers got their hands on him, Mario Ramos made
the start. He gave up 6 hits and 3 walks, but only 1 run, in 5 innings.

Freddie Bynum had a bad day. He stood at the plate for a long time yacking
after being called out on strikes, and took a long time going back to the
dugout. He led off the 8th with the River Cats down 4-1 with a hit to the
left-center gap, which was cut off. He should have stopped at second, but
kept going to third, and was called out on a close play. He argued and was
tossed from the game, as was the manager. Bynum was the #9 hitter with the
top of the order coming up, and naturally the next batter dumped one into
center field that he would have scored on from second easily. His spot in
the order came up again in the bottom of the 9th with two men on and two
out. His replacement struck out to end the game.

That made it a 3-5 home stand for the River Cats.
