Kwakkeljaar Arsenal door slechte uitbalans


Arsenal is bezig aan een heel pover seizoen. Februari moet nog beginnen,
maar The Gunners hebben nog slechts één kans op een prijs. In het
Premiership bedraagt het gat naar koploper Chelsea liefst 25 punten, terwijl
Wigan Athletic en Bolton Wanderers vorige week te sterk bleken in
respectievelijk League Cup en FA Cup. Blijft over het toernooi om de
Champions League waarin Real Madrid de tegenstander is in de achtste finale.

In het Premiership presteert de ploeg van coach Arsène Wenger vooral
buitenshuis beneden peil. Bijna tien jaar is de Franse coach aan het bewind
op Highbury, maar nog nooit peurde Arsenal zo weinig punten uit uitduels. In
de eerste elf competitiewedstrijden heeft de ploeg van Wenger slechts negen
punten op vreemde bodem vergaard, gemiddeld nog geen punt per wedstrijd,
omgerekend naar een volledig uitseizoen zijn dat circa 15 punten.

Sinds Wenger op 28 september 1996 als coach aan de slag ging bij de
Londenaren, slaagde Arsenal er slechts drie keer niet in meer dan dertig
punten buitenshuis te pakken. En daarbij is dan ook nog het aantal punten
gerekend, dat Wenger in zijn eerste maar niet volledige seizoen verdiende.
