3be.html Robert Horry watched only the closing two minutes of Miami's clinching victory in the NBA Finals on Tuesday night. It was enough, however, to make him smile. If Horry and the Spurs couldn't win another title, he at least was glad Dallas fell short in its quest to win its first. "That's the first time I ever rooted for the East," Horry said. "You usually never root for the East, you root for the West. But the way (the Mavericks) acted, it just put a bad taste in my mouth. "All the whining Dallas did, the way (owner Mark) Cuban acted, the way (assistant coach) Del Harris acted on the sideline a couple of times, I was happy to see Dallas lose." While Cuban and Dallas coach Avery Johnson were criticized for their behavior after losing Game 5 of the Finals, Horry didn't like how the Mavericks acted while eliminating the Spurs in the Western Conference semifinals. In addition to saying that Mavericks guard Jason Terry didn't deserve to be suspended for hitting Michael Finley in the groin, Cuban called Tim Duncan a "crybaby," labeled Spurs fans the "rudest" in the league, and called the River Walk "an ugly-ass, muddy-watered thing." Harris also mocked Duncan for complaining about calls during Game 4 of that series, Horry said. "I know the one game we won in Dallas, Avery was crying about the refs," Horry said. "I was like, 'You're crying about the refs?' We're the only ones who should be crying about the refs. We're the ones who are down in the series. "There were just a lot of things that they did that I didn't think were characteristic of a team that's supposed to be in the (top) class." Horry didn't play much against Dallas, averaging 11.6 minutes in the final five games after Spurs coach Gregg Popovich went small to better match up with Dirk Nowitzki. In contrast, the Heat often stayed big against the Mavericks because their power forward, Udonis Haslem, proved athletic enough to guard Nowitzki. Nowitzki averaged 27.1 points on 52.7 percent shooting against the Spurs. Haslem, who was on the Spurs' summer-league team before signing with Miami three years ago, and James Posey helped limit Nowitzki to 22.8 points on 39 percent shooting. "It was almost like (the Heat) said, 'Don't do what the Spurs did because they lost the series,'" Horry said. Horry, who turns 36 in August, jokingly called himself a "dinosaur" during the playoffs but still thinks he has enough left to contribute. He has two years remaining on his contract but said he might retire after next season. "My ultimate goal is to play 15 (years), and this would be 15," Horry said. "But if I'm feeling spry, I'll keep going." |

I am trying to figure out what Horry is smoking but its clear he is just
embarassed about being eliminated by Dallas. No superstar in the league whines more than Tim Duncan. Even when Tim Duncan has 30 points and 12 rebounds, he still whines almost every play. Del Harris had to tell Tim Duncan during the series "Youre too good to whine that much".Horry also had some words for San Antonio when he was with the Lakers, so this is nothing new. Horry's Spurs got a majority of the calls give or take one game. Yet he says "were the only ones who should be crying about the refs". I think Horry is so spoiled with winning championships that he figured this would be another cake walk.. Didn't happen.. P.S. Everybody is whining about the refs... Even teams that win... Welcome to the NBA... |

Welcome to how the rest of the world sees the Mavs. A rich, whiny owner and it goes all the way down the line. In contrast, Wade just smiled after he got whacked over and over and Shaq just made fun of Jerry Crackhouse after the flagarant (my sister hit me harder than that). Now I'm no Spurs fan at all (where is that Charlie Boardhead whose face we need to rub it in after he cockily predicted an easy Dallas win?), but Duncan doesn't have that whiny, flopper reputation that Dallas now has. He has an easy going, MVP, multiple rings reputation. |

Deny all you want, but nothing will erase the perception the Mavericks now
have of being THE whiniest team in the NBA. Point elsewhere all you can, but it isn't going to rub off. Cuban wanted the rep, he's GOT the rep now. Congrats on having the target on your back next season, and let's see how Cuban, Avery and _irk handle an entire season with the pressure on. That would be true since _irk isn't considered to be a "superstar". Real franchise players don't disappear in the playoffs, much less the NBA Finals! Quote:
And the Mavericks "guaranteed championship" didn't happen either. |

I agree with everything you said except for the last bit about Duncan. He really is one of the biggest whiners out there. Always crying and bitching with his pouty-faced expression after what he deems as non-called offenses. But then again, as someone else had previously mentioned, welcome to the NBA of today. An NBA that feels the need to 'create' rivalries and superstars in order to maintain this run of mediocre basketball focused on individualism. It started with Jordan in the 90's and has continued/mutated ever since. |

Call it what you want but Dallas would off won if the refs didn't give wade
some bogus calls.Twice at the end of games. Dallas should be the champion. Everyone I talk to fan or not agrees Dallas really won. The league was helping a bunch of old guys. jmho |

Of course using the exact same argument Dallas is on vacation after round 2. But just like the Spurs in round 2, the Mavs would've won this series despite the calls if they hadn't lost focus bigtime (Spurs in game 2 and first half of game 7, Mavs in 4th quarter of Game 3) and if they had executed and made shots at the ends of those close games. Just like the Spurs they have only themselves to blame. Dallas should be the champion. Quote:

Wade got calls to give him the game. That never happened in any of the other
games. The only was Dallas could win is if it wasnt close at the end. The spurs choked. I don tlike either team. "Charlie Board" <charlieDIESPAMMERSboard@nc.rr.com> wrote in message news:449D62E3.2060303@nc.rr.com... Quote:

Damn right, he should be embarrassed about it as should all the Spurs. They are a better team than the Mavs and were the only team in the playoffs, other than Detroit, who had a chance of beating the Heat. But instead of joining the Lakers, Rocks, and Bulls, as teams who dominate by winning multiple championships in a row, they remain among the league's "ordinary" champs. I guess I shouldn't say anything, because it's apparently good enough for the team and it's fans, right guys? Greg |
