I'm surprised there mixed feelings on this. I thought for sure this would be a hated thought here. I think he's overrated, but even if you take that aside, he is getting old and hurt and we aren't exactly poised for a championship run... so where could this possibly get us... especially by giving up a #7 pick for???? |

People think of Iverson as a me-me player. Some say even if you put a supporting cast around him that he still wouldnt championship worthy. Has he ever really had a good supporting cast around him? A player with that ability is bound to have some kind of cast that could work. |

Iverson is a me-me player, but he also knows how to play. The Sixers dont really have a lot of guys that know what to do when AI is driving around with the ball. If they're open they get the ball, but they dont always know what to do with it, and sometimes they dont want it. IMO if he has the right cast he can win and be a key part, but that probably can be said about a lot of players. Not sure that he would put the Celts over the top or what their thinking is, especially in light of the Telfair deal. Swyck |

The Sixers did this in 2001, when Larry Brown surround Iverson with defensive-minded, scrappy, solid players and they got to the finals. Eric Snow ran the point, George Lynch on the wing, Tyrone Hill played power forward, and Mutombo played center. Aaron McKie was a rock-solid 6th man. This was a very, very good team. They clamped teams down but had little offense outside of Iverson. Brown knew that the only way to win WITH Iverson was to let AI be AI and let him play the passing lanes, shoot at will, get double-teamed, shoot anyway, and have guys that can rebound well. It took Shaq in his prime, Kobe, Horry in playoffs form, and an equally solid supporting cast to take the team down. They played the right way, and that's the last time Philadelphia saw that. It'd be better than giving up a #7 for Telfair.... |
