I'm not sure if I understand the TV/radio reports on this story yesterday.
Did Salmons just refuse the contract terms for the sign and trade? Or was
it something peculiar about Toronto that he finds objectionable? If the
latter, it makes you wonder why he chose Toronto over Phoenix before, of if
he really did--- perhaps there is some breakdown between Salmons and his
agent here?

It all seems quite odd to me, especially from Salmons' point of view. At
one time, he had his choice of jobs, the Sixers were willing to give him a
decent contract and trade him to the team of his choice. Now he's a free
agent without a job or contract. Is someone telling him he's going to get a
better deal? I don't think so; Salmons probably just walked away from his
best situation.

One thing for sure, the Sixers renounced, meaning they decided they liked
Green better and backup SG and Williams better as backup PG. I agree on
both counts.

The best I can make of it is that Salmons was somehow under the
impression that he would be starting in Toronto (if not, why not go to
Phoenix for the same money?) and when he found out otherwise, he balked
at the deal - even though his agent can't exactly be blamed for finding
someone to give him $4.5M over 5 years. Who knows where he ends up now
since all three of those doors are now shut to him and I doubt he'd get
more than $2M from any other team out there (and still for a reserve
role).
Every quote I remember from him showed him to have a hugely inflated
opinion of his own game. I wouldn't be surprised to see him sit out
through most of the season, like Sprewell last year, waiting for some
team to realize they need him, only to be sadly disappointed - and then
be left signing for the minimum as an injury replacement or go to
Europe.

Salmons is either getting bad advice or rejecting the good advice he gets.

Quick edit, just to point out that this should have been $4.5M/yr for 5
years. Most people probably understood as much - well, except maybe
Salmons himself.

Unfortunately we didn't get the trade exemption and pick for him.
