So let me see now..Nick Licata who has become the posterboy for KICK THE
SONICS OUT doesn't now what the penalty is for breaking the lease. He doesn't have a real handle on how much revenue the franchises generate. He waffled on how much he has attended Sonics games in history...(it was pretty obvious that he doesn't go to the games and really has no clue what goes on at them). He has not seen the actual lease. He seriously presented his "good faith" gesture of a $20m renovation of Key Arena. This moron insists that concerts would be the revenue generator for Key Arena if the Sonics leave..ignoring that Key Arena loses consistently the big shows right now..and a possible new arena on the East Side would kill the Key. This guy is a moron. He literally had no idea what he was talking about..but hey...he means it. Wow. How does this guy get elected? -- v/r Dread Pirate Rackham "You know one things that's wrong with this country? I don't like Licata all that much, but if you want to keep the team in Seattle because of the revenue it generates I suggest you read some Andrew Zimbalist. Prestige, fine. The sense of being a "big league city"? Sure. Because you like basketball and want to root for a local team and not the damned Blazers? Great reason (it's mine). All sports teams do, however, is funnel money that otherwise would have been redistributed around the city and instead siphon it off into the pockets of rich people who live elsewhere. That's all well and good and I'm not disputing the success of the economic model but sports teams do jack and shit in terms of improving neighborhoods (yeah, Pioneer Square and SODO are soooo much better off now that the Seahawks and Mariners are there) or increase cash flow in a city. Again, I'm all for the Sonics staying in Seattle (or better yet, moving out here to Bellevue - I would totally own season tickets because games would be within walking distance). But let's be for it for the right reasons. PS. WHERE IS ANTHONY AVERSANO???? |
