I thought it'd be a hive of activity at the minute - is everyone too shell
shocked to post? BTW, have a look over on the mags NG at the latest posts from Happy Poor - Check out his excellent "Flying Without Wings" painting and our little conversation about "Allegorical Explanation". I still can't work out if he's the world's biggest wind-up merchant, or an escaped mental patient. |

So what's everyones reaction to the Keane signing? Seems like everyone I know was the same as me... very uneasy at first, getting a manager with no experience.. then utter joy once it was completed yesterday. Now who do we think he'll bring in? Rossi from Man U on loan seems to be the fav. at the moment. |

Despised the bloke as a player - thought he was an dirty, arrogant twat. But after hearing his press conference in full, I've changed my tune. His admission that he had 'crossed the line' as a player, and that this had caused him to lose his Mun U/Ireland careers shows that he does have some humility. The bloke is a winner. He will not accept anything less than 100% - and the fact that we have had to put up with a LOT less than 100% recently, means that he'll get my total support. |

You're on a winner folks
As a leeds and sunderland fan (yes they can go together in Ireland), the only united player I ever had tme for was keane...a winner through and through Try give him less than 100% He will also be in position to bring some good players to the club.. every player who played with him respected him...opponents also hated and despised him.. respected him though He has humility and he is the worlds best motivator.... He carried Ireland and united as a player... players played above themselves out of fear... thats what our overpaid wasters need sometimes I see Sunderland finishing above leeds this year and cannot wait for the wolves game....will make for interesting handshake... i imagine he will have made up with McCarthy though... He hated Quinninhio just as much if not more for not backing him in Saipan and now there like Ant and Dec "Nel" <nelftm@MY_ISP_world.com> wrote in message news:ZbfJg.263$cx.168@newsfe1-gui.ntli.net... An impressive win over a team many peg for promotion A new manager and coach. Hysen and Riera. Six signings by the new manager yesterday - adding needed experience, depth, quality and potential to the squad. And it seems like there are more new faces at SAFC than there have been posts to this newsgroup in the past 24 hours. Where's Alex with his renewed optimism, Steve with "it won't make a difference", Andy's cynicism, Mick's analysis, DaveD's lengthy responses to every post????? |

I'm lurking and learning. Another question for the group...............Why wait until after the season has started until a new manager and players are brought in? This would be unheard of in the sports I am more familiar with. I'm confused. Leonard |

Murray couldn't hire a new manager over the summer as he knew he was on the out. Ditto for bringing in players. Quinn couldn't enter into serious negotiations with a new manager until he had control of the club. And I doubt Keane was the first choice so that prolonged things. Quinn did bring in several new players (eg., Cunningham, Clarke, Elliott, Hysen and Riera) out of necessity and let some go (eg., Arca, McCartney, Kyle) because they freed up cash and it wasn't fair to stand in their way. I'm sure Keane demanded the opportunity to make his additions as a condition of accepting the job rather than working through to January under the constraints of someone else's players. Hope that eases the confusion. Paul |
