Default Any chance of a decent cup run?

What do you reckon? It seems to me (no names, mind) that with the right
attitude and management any side is capable of putting together a decent cup
run. It's all about organisation, management, attitude, and a style of play
which has only one objective: getting through to the next round unscathed.
So, are Everton capable of it? It's about time we got somewhere in one of
the cups, but frankly, our record over the last few years is abysmal.

Opinions?

No chance. Moyes has qualities but it seems tactical nous is not one of
them. The strength of Moyes' teams is that he gets them fitter and 'more up
for it' than their opponents a large percentage of the time. In cup games,
the opponents are just as up for it and it comes down more to the tactical
ability of the coach which is where we fail.

I'd be delighted to be proven wrong of course

Phil

I had a theory for some time that while the 'bigger' clubs concentrated on
the CL and the PL titles and while it is still a route into Europe that we
should go all out and try to win the Worthless Cup. Then Arsenals youth team
battered the fcuk out of our first eleven and put paid to that theory.

That was pretty much my fear - Beattie, VDM et al seem to be scotching the
fitness reputation too. It does come down to tactics, but with anything
more than Prem survival/pos euro places for most teams, the ability to put
together a cup run has got to be one of the pre-requisites of a top manager
today.

Heh heh. We *usual suspects* get a lot of stick on here, but I don't see
any optimists willing to suggest any reasons why we should see anything
better than before in the cups.
