Default Anyone own a Sony PSP?

My son wants one for Christmas (well he did til he saw the Nintendo Wii
demo...)
Can you download games/movies from torrent sites?
If so does the console need to be 'chipped' like the PS2?
And finally, whats the recommended memory stick, is the 2gb worth getting as
I
think the basic unit comes with just 32mb which seems quite puny in
comparison
Thank you

You need the 1.5 firmware version (get a Jap one from ebay, the Jap ones
have sharper display), don't need to chip it, and yes you can download the
games, and yes, you'll need a few 2gb memory sticks to fit a few games on
each.
Having said all that, they are a ball ache to get the games working and
mine's gathering dust on the shelf.
Get him an xbox 360 instead with dead rising !

There is now a new "chip" for the PSP, quite expensive, but worth it, plays
all the games & movies & music without having to change firmware all the
time.

Oh yes, and another as spare/working, one in the PSP and one to add new
stuff, easy & quick to change then, guy in HK on Ebay is doing them dead
cheap, might be worth getting 2 or 3 or more, only £18 delivered.

When you say 'ball ache' how much of one?!

for him?

yes you are, different games need different loaders etc... you have to work
it all out and it isn't straightforward.

In all honesty, in terms of games only, the DS is the better option.
Developers are dropping PSP like a hot stone, EA included. Even if you hate
EA, their support for a console is like oxygen for a human, eg. Dreamcast?

I believe there's some kind of pirate cart for the DS, somewhere.
