At least Pujols didn't leave the yard with it, so the pilots won't be
able to joke about the ball flying past the windows on the plane again.

Glad to see you aren't blaming the seven Astros who failed to drive in
the runners in scoring position in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings.

Everyone (apparently except Garner) could see this trainwreck coming a
hundred miles away. Pujols + Lidge = loss. If I'm the Astros
manager, I give Pujols an intentional walk 100% of the time. How many
times do we have to see this happen to figure that out?

Yes, the Astros hitters should have scored more runs, and not stranded
a zillion runners in scoring position. But despite that, they still
had the lead going into the 9th. How freakin' hard is it to simply
hold a lead for the last three outs.

You can't blame Brad--for Albert's GW hit. Albert's been doing this
all season. You *can* blame Brad for hitting Spiezio to get Albert up to
the plate when maybe Spiezio could have made the final out.
That is why he is going to win the MVP Award as he did in 2005!

I was at the game. Great game, as usual--and I was believing HOU had
the Cards beat this game, but for the greatest position player in the game
today, bar none. [Chris Carpenter is the best pitcher in the game today.]
Every game the Cards play with the Astros is always a great game
because the two teams respect the other so much and have such great
competitors.
Cards fans love to rib the Cubs to no end, but we don't do that against
HOU because they have so much class and have so much great talent and
competitiveness.
If you guys can win the Wild Card, it would be another great NLCS if
the Astros and Cards play each other again.
Good luck!

Because Garner isn't a good manager.

Scott gets on base to lead of the inning (9th?). Burke, Bruntlett and
Ausmus due up. So what does Garner do? He has Burke, easily the best
hitter of the three bunt, and then leaves it up to the two weak hitters
to drive in the run. If Garner isn't going to pinch-hit for Bruntlett
or Ausmus, he can't have Burke bunting. Another stupid Garner move.

And he doesn't have a good team.

Tries to get the runner in scoring position while minimizing the risk of
a DP. I didn't think it was a great move -- Burke had just put one in
Big Mac Land -- but I thought I knew what Garner was thinking. Stealing
second was off the table and the least-risk move was to sacrifice
because he didn't want to risk Bruntlett coming up with two outs and
face starting out the ninth with Ausmus - pitcher's spot - Taveras. You
like that possibility any better?

Who was left on the bench that you'd send to PH? Quintero?
Ensberg? Lane? It's not like Garner has a lot of offense to work with,
or even a deep bench, and it doesn't help when the
pitching goes south on him in the bottom of the ninth.

Besides, do you think that ONE more run would've sealed the deal for the
Astros? The Cards would've still tied on Pujols' double -- runner in
scoring position with one out and Duncan and Encarnacion, who was
already 2-4 with a homer, due.

The amazing thing is that Houston was even able to stay in the game so
long with Pettitte out early and Weaver on the mound as long as he was.

Well, it was HBP according to the world of Tim Tschida (and I have to
agree with Scott Rolen about the Twilight Zone -- I mean STRIKE zone --
last night). Even Luke Scott was befuddled by the call that he'd been
hit. The video showed he clearly wasn't.

Actually, that wasn't the pilots as I recall. It was Jeff Bagwel who
got on the plane's intercom and made that comment on the way to SL for
game 6.

Bottom line is that Pujols hit a good pitch, in on his hands. 95% of
ml players won't get that ball out of the infield.
