The Florida Marlins are very much in contention for a wild card birth in
the NL on a $17 million dollar player payroll. This is amazing when you compare it to the 70 million Blue Jay budget for 2006. The Marlins earlier traded all their high-priced stars for prospects earlier in the year. Their future for next year looks good, much better than that of the Jays. Some baseball "experts" will say the National League is not as strong as the American and the Jays have to contend with the big spending Yankees and Red Sox. But looking back at the 2006 season the Jays were swept by both the Marlins and Colorado in inter league play. The NL did not seem that weak to the Jays then. And the Marlins are not the only low-spending franchise that is doing really well. This is the second time the Marlins have done this and they have already won two Word Series as a result. Look at the surging Minnesota Twins who may take the AL Central championship. Their player payroll is substantially less than that of the Jays. The Jays' main weakness has been its scouting for talent and its farm system. Its Triple A team, the Syracuse Chiefs, almost every year is in or is near last place. In 2006, the past year, the Chiefs were abysmal. Even the Yankees have produced better farm prospects than the Jays over the last decade. Several of their star players have been home grown such as Derek Jeter, Jorge Pasada, Miariano Rivera, Andy Pettit (who left as a free agent), Nick Johnson (traded away), Melky Cabrero, Scott Proctor, and Robinson Cano. A sports writer in the Toronto Sun pointed out that the Jays, system under five years of J.P Ricciardi has produced thus far only one solid prospect, Aaron Hill. Adam Lind may be another, if Ricciardi doesn't trade him away in another bad deal. |

But who the hell is Brian Daily? I just checked and he has a total of three postings with only three of four followups on my newsreader. And the guy seems to be just another anti-U.S. socialist like you so why would you call him a troller since you both think alike, Mark. Oh, I get it. Brian Daily is just another one of your fake names. But thanks for the compliment anyway when you wrote, "your trolls started threads containing hundreds of responses" in the good old days. If you check again you will find that my recent post on Stephen Harper did rattle quite a few leftist cages. As for the post above re the Blue Jays, the truth and logic of it are impeccable. Many people no doubt just read it and accepted the analysis without making any comment. Anyhow, sadly, the baseball season for the Jays is over. BTW. You still haven't told us what has become of your old partner in crime, David Reilley. It is just that he has been proved wrong so many times, on so many issues that he just could not accept any more embarrassment and punishment on the Net? Quote:

Sympatico dropped it, as well. It has gotten to be too much of a pain since the IPS's feel they have to police usenet. They don't have to police usenet. cordially, as always, rm |

You got to kidding or just a dumb ass
troll? With an under .500 recorded and in the hunt for a wild amongst a bunch of perennial losers. Ya what a classy team with an asshole owner to boot.how many times has he threatened to move the team and how about the way he has dealt with the players. And despite all the socalled talent they had last year, they still will not fare much different this year. A long shot for post season. All of them more than happy to leave btw. The marlins are the farm team of national league (fatten them up and sell to the highest bidder) {look under montreal expos for a further clue} As to the jays,I don't think anyone could despute they had a better season this year than last. Not that I really think that jp had much effect on the out come either way as many of the players who excelled this season where left overs. A couple of the new guys did play well this season as well, but not good enough to compensate for the pitching woes, that where brought to a head with the stupid lilly incident this season.Nor the asinine remark jp made before the break. If the jays had even gotten a few more wins from towers, chacin, and burnett. who knows.but thats an if and if's don't count for much other than a little merit when it comes to post season play. As and as long as teams like the yakees are alowed to plunder the leagues and pay any price to win thier division everyyear, which btw is nothing more than buba going to the corner 7-11 for a six pack. There will be no parody in mlb especialy the al east. Which over more than a few years now has produced a very boreing first round of play off's makeing, the whole thing looking even more foolish, when the yanks are done in as usual,as they will be this year again...but enough that the yanker faithfull will continue to yell buy buy no matter what the price and fill stinkbrenner 's padded cell. Sure some teams with a lesser payroll have surfaced as the cream on the top but not as often and not as for long. Soon those players who surfaced with those teams become sought after, with visions of huge over blown and over rated pay day's. And that team becomes decimated and plunder for the highest bidder. Of which the marlins are no exception in deed. More often that not its the stink of greed and money the surfaces to the top.
