Tonight the Sox begin their second series against the Oakland A's. The
first series was at The Cell and marked the return to Chicago of one of baseballs best hitters, ever. I was at that game and saluted Frank before his first AB. Frank's perpetual "foot in mouth disease" didn't impede my respect for he accomplished in a Sox uniform. I was not surprised to see Frank bash two HRs that night. Following are a few comments from Phil Rogers column today, "Can't doubt Thomas' Hall credentials after torrid season:" "Thomas, the greatest hitter in White Sox history, won the MVP in 1993 and '94 and finished second in 2000, third in 1997 and third in 1991. "Since the BBWAA started electing MVPs in 1931, only 10 other players have finished in the top three at least five times. It's quite a list. "Barry Bonds, nine times. Stan Musial, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle and Henry Aaron, seven times. Willie Mays, Yogi Berra and Joe DiMaggio, six times. Mike Schmidt, Alex Rodriguez and Thomas, five times. "If Thomas somehow should slip into this year's top three, not out of the question if he keeps hitting like he has recently, he will have as many top-three seasons as Mays, DiMaggio and Berra. White Sox fans were lucky to have seen him hit for so long, even if the outside noise made it hard to focus on his skills after he won the batting title in 1997." Take it easy on the Sox these next few games Frank. |

Ok, Frank didn't heed my request. Fitting I guess that Frank tosses some dirt on the grave of the '06 Sox. Best wishes to Frank in the post-season. First I'll be rooting for the AL Central teams in the post-season and then, as I almost always have done, I'll root for the AL in the World Series. |

Biggest mistake the Sox ever made. You don't treat a HOF guy like that. He had a hell of a series, didn't he? -- .. -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

No, not the biggest mistake the Sox have made. They just won the World Series in '05 and it was their first championship since 1917. They no doubt made dozens of big mistakes in the years between 1917 and 2005. Plus every team except for Oakland passed on Thomas. So the Sox weren't alone in thinking he was done. Quote:
Oh, BS! How did the Sox treat Thomas wrong? Thomas is a future HOF, but he's also a HOF complainer. Quote:

It pains me to have to return here, and respond to personal flames. I was hoping that my work, in this newsgroup, had been successfully completed until next Spring. The disappearance of the "fairweathered fans" is something that I clearly and repeatedly predicted...indeed, I saw it as flat-out inevitable. In fact, it was THESE fans (who crawled out from under rocks at the season start...wearing black and white t-shirts and saying, "I have been a Sox fan ALL OF MY LIFE!") that caused the intense nausea that lead me to begin my posting barrage. Now they have disappeared, because they never truly existed (as real Sox fans) in the first place. It is possible that some of my posts helped them to realize that they were making idiots out of themselves. It is significant to note that I personally know hundreds of Cubs fans, and note a single one has dropped his loyalty to the team...even in light of the pathetic finish this season. The fact that the White Sox will never achieve a loyal fan base, equal to that of the Cubs, is a topic we have already discussed dozens of times this season. There are a few of you, however, that have proven to be truly nowledgable, and formidible, White Sox fans. It has been a real pleasure trading blows with you. I apologize for having gotten most of the attention...when you obviously put more research into your posts. HOWEVER: This Crawdaddy piece-of-shit publically declared that he is a fan of the Green Bay Packers. That gives him credibility equal to that of a crack whore. I archive every newsgroup that I partcipate in, so I have his statement safely stored on one of my servers. I have every intention of bringing this up next year, and every year from now until the end of time. Whenever Crawdaddy shows his miserable (green and yellow painted) face, I will be there to remind every reader that he is a pathetic low-life cheese-head. Until next season (don't make me come back in self-defense), Jeffrey Alsip |

Well, at least I can give you credit for feedback nonetheless.
Unlike all the other NG's activity, here I attempt to encourage others to be responsive - sometimes tactfully, sometimes provocatively, sometimes aggravatingly and other times sincerely. I feel quite frustrated because I wish to chat baseball, particularly the White Sox. The common "excuse" for what I've seen here is that there are better blogs and chat boards that are well monitored, however I can tolerate utter stupity as well as repugnant - X-rated language, etc. Sometimes posters throw stats in my face to refute what I've posted - as if stats are all that matter. After all, who would have taken the previous historical stats of Jermaine Dye (even '05's Derek Lee) and followed up by commenting that his high powered '06 season would have ever actually come to fruition? As far as next season, I'll be posting under a different 'handle' so as to eliminate the pigeonholed perception of my input. Until then, this season isn't over and I've taken to Oakland to win it all. I truly have appreciated all that Frank Thomas has done for the W.S. since '90-91. I have debt of appreciation for the all-time White Sox slugger, wherever he goes. As far as I'm concerned, when he left - it was as though 25-50% of the team was lost even though they are still have (had) the potential to win it all. Hopefully, little changes will be made for next year because how they "placed" this year is hardly understandable. <jeffreyalsip@gmail.com> wrote in message news:1160067065.978985.230430@c28g2000cwb.googlegr oups.com...
