Is everyone as sold on Marte at 3rd as Tribe management appears to be ?

I for one am not.

Casey Blake back at 3rd (where he should have been all along) sounds logical
to me.
His offense and defense is more than adequate for a playoff team.

Not yet. He's only 22 (soon to be 23) and has some time to mature.
Hank Blalock and Mark Teixeira looked a lot like him at his age, and if
he goes that route, we have no worries.

If he goes Brandon Phillips... then we have a problem.

I wish. Career 80/20/80 and batting at a .260 clip isn't more than
adequate... it's barely adequate. Especially from a corner position.

I think most people believe that Andy Marte, in the 10 years it takes to
get as old as Blake, will progress beyond Blake's numbers. I'm one of them.

I'm speaking strictly from a 2007 perspective.

Way Way Too early to make a case against Marte! Remember Carlos
Barega? Actually got sent make to the minors after 2-3 months of his
first season. Check him out after 500 ABs Defense is already better
than Blake.

I'm just not sure he's ready to be given the job and for the Tribe to expect
to
be a playoff caliber team. His defense has not exactly amazed me either.

My guess is that Shapiro did the deal, therefore it (to him..) is an
ingenious deal.

I agree about Peralta. He looks like he could care less, and he plays like
it too.

Alright, for 2007, the only way I want Casey Blake to play 3B is if all
of the following are true:

a) he looks a whole lot more like this year than last year
b) he has quality defense
c) it opens up a spot for someone like Garko. This might not even be
possible: does anyone know anything about OF experience / speed /
throwing arm?

For, basically, Coco Crisp? I think it was a good deal that preyed on
Boston's need to fill CF with proven talent. Crisp isn't bad, but we
don't need him.

Fair enough answer.

No need to rehash the Coco Crisp trade(s), yet again....
Water over the dam.

Your 3rd Base starter then is ??
Marte, or Kouz, or TBD in Spring Training ?

Casey either stays in RF next year, or is gone to a NL team because of
his versatility.

Garko is at 1B next year. I don't see this not happening.

Kouzmanoff or Marte will be the 3B, depending on spring training. Right
now, I'd say KK has the edge.

I think Shapiro needs to trade Victor and Peralta for a quality
defensive SS.

Unless anybody things Luna can play SS everyday.

I think we could survive with Michaels, Luna, Inglett, and whoever in LF
IF we had a good defensive SS.
