good can be such a subjective term. a little bit depends on what you
plan on doing on the machine, and what level of sharpness and crispness
of picture you want......i.e. a few years ago i bought an LCD without
doing much research first...it works great for email, word processing,
and most games, but dvd video leaves a little bit to be desired.

i would recomend, if you can, go to the stores and check out the
monitors 1st hand. if possible, see what it looks like using the apps
you will be running.

oh, and a dimensions of LCD vs CRT are not exactly the same...a 17 inch
LCD will give you just about the same viewing space of a 19 inch CRT.

ok here try this link:

http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-7610_7-5084364-3.html

thats most of the technical stuff you will want to know about.

and i would recomed that once you think you have one you want picked
out, get the model number, go back to that cnet link, click' 'reviews',
and look up the model number. you can check out the user reviews and
see what people have had to say about it.

I would personally go with Dell. They usually have a pretty good price
to go along with the monitor, plus you get good warranty support. You
might be able to find a cheaper monitor for $30 bucks less somewhere
else, but I would go with a brand that is trusted and has been making
LCD's from the beginning.

I am using MAG and it has been doing good. I have it for at least 3
years now with no problem.

But you need to look at the max resolution the monitor can support.
The higher the more detail it can show and more expensive it will be.

Dell. You can find the 193FP to 196FP pretty inexpensively.

Keep in mind that if you try and reclaim all of the space your current
monitor takes up, you will have to push the screen back, making it actually
look smaller than your old monitor. To keep the same visual size, you'll
have to put the flat screen where the front of the old tube monitor was, and
it'll claim the same amount of desk space...

I went with the ViewSonic.. I talked them down to 229 on one that was listed
for 249.. because I bought one earlier in the day that had some issues with
it... It works like a charm and I got the 2 year warranty tossed in.
