Default Tides sign affiliation agreement with Baltimore Orioles

From:
http://baltimore.orioles.mlb.com/NA...t=.jsp&c_id=bal

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Norfolk Tides and Baltimore Orioles announced
today that the two clubs have agreed on a four-year Player Development
Contract that extends through the end of the 2010 season.

(snip)

Norfolk replaces the Ottawa Lynx as the Triple-A affiliate of the
Orioles, which had been stationed in Ottawa since 2003. The change in
affiliation also ends the Tides' partnership with the New York Mets,
which had been in place since the 1969 season.

I like this move... I've long thought the O's could set up pretty much
their entire minor league system in the Delmarva area... it would be
efficient for them, and would give fans in the area something extra to
root for...

I also heard that Comcast might broadcast a number of Tides games on
their network...

It'll be nice to have all the O's affliates so close, too. Four hours
is hardly anything, considering the 10 - 12 hour drive to Rochester and
the 14 - 18 hour drive to Ottawa. Using the bridge-tunnel, it's only
about 2 hours from Salisbury to Norfolk, which would make a Baltimore
Minor League Roadtrip much easier.

Norfolk/VA Beach is a good area, lots of military and families, and the
area is beginning to make noise about becoming a home for some sort of
pro team.

Shame I don't live down there anymore...I always enjoyed the old Met
Park near my first college campus.

Well, next time I'm on the highway and I see someone going 30
MPH, I'll know who it is!

The circumstances behind the shuffle really helped the Orioles
this time around, as opposed to last time when Rochester didn't
want anything to do with the Orioles and the team got stuck with
one of the donkey prizes (the other being New Orleans).

If you can get from Northern Virginia to I-81 in less than two hours,
you have to go in the middle of the night! Or, more to the point, NOT
hit every light on US 15 - that's a toughie.

1) Please don't top-post.
2) I think he was mocking your 10-12 hours to Rochester/14-18 hours to
Ottawa thing. It should be about half of that.

Eeek!

With the toll$ to cross the CBBT it would be alot cheaper to drive to
Balmer from the most of the Sho' and watch the O's. Maybe that is the
plan, but O's fans on Delmarva will NOT be making many trips to
Norfolk, (although I will plan a few).

It might, however, help to replace some of the loss of their exposure
to the D.C. market and consolidate the fan base further south. There
are millions of people in the Norfolk region and it can't hurt to play
up the O's brand there. For marketing, it is the best move they could
have made.

Either way, it is good news that the O's are out of Ottawa.

It was really teasing, not mocking - I hope it didn't come off
like the latter!
