Did anybody see the game last night? How shady were some of those error
calls the NY press seems to be harping on? - Ray Bradley |

I only saw the last one, Melvin Mora's that let in the only run... It was an error all the way, no other way to call it... Mora just butchered what should have been a routine play... Quote:

I saw the last two; they were clear errors. I don't know about the first one. But I'm pretty sure Cano's hit makes it a moot point. |

The game was on ESPN2 out here. Millar, Roberts and Mora should have
made those plays. And, of course, if they had made the plays, Cano never gets to bat in the 9th inning. David M. Nieporent wrote: Quote:

I had no problem with it being called an error. Roberts, although still moving, was squared up to take the grounder and would have thrown the runner out. As it is, the ball hit the heel of his glove and bounced away. The look on Mora's face was all the evidence you needed that his play was an error. I liked that Fiorentino looked like he was thinking of diving for Cano's hit, even though he would have had no chance whatsoever of even landing anywhere near the ball. |

No questions. They were errors. NY presses are in error also.

I listened to the game via XM which broadcasts the home team's signals. As much as I hate to listen to Susan and whatshisname, and it is much worse than waterboarding to do so (The starting-pitch speed is brought to you by X, the game-temperature is brought to you by X, the 1st Inning is brought to you by X!!!!) , they admitted that all of the errors were, indeed, errors. They even (sort of) castigated the Yankee$ fans when they booed the Mora-error ruling, but incorrectly praised the Yankee$ fans for giving Cabrerra a standing ovation after Cano got his base hit in the 9th. The Yankee$ fans obviously gave the standing-ovation to Cano for getting a hit, but the Yankee$ broadcasters had to provide some cover for their clueless clients. |

Hmm... I seem to recall someone else saying the same thing.: "Nobody likes to hear it, because it's dull, but the reason you win or lose is darn near always the same - pitching." Earl Weaver But what do those guys know? |
