Default LAST POST - THANKS & Goodbye

The group is about to die the death some people wished it would.

But before it's gone for good, I want to say goodbye to all of the guys and
gals (remember that chick from Jersey?) who made this place what it was over
the years. You know who you are, and so does everyone else.

We had some good times in here, but now it's time to just let her die in
dignity. I thought things would turn around. I was wrong. Rogers and
Sympatico put her on her knees, altraps finished the job. But that's
progress, I guess.

Hopefully the spammers stay out so she can go peacefully, quickly and
quietly.

Goodbye.

Why give up on the NG right before training camp starts? That's when
things might pick up again.

If the same volume of contributions made to this group and altraps
combined, where all made in this group.. in otherwords if you take all
the threads that where started on altraps and started them here
instead, it would have generated a lot more discussion.

The defection of many of the most active contributors of this forum to
altraps, where their contributions are unable to create sustained
dialog because of many usability issues, including the lack of
threading, poor quoting model and new posts being often hard to find,
is killing the community.

you can find historic posting levels here:

http://groups.google.com/group/alt....r-raptors/about

It is obvious that current low posting levels are unrelated to any
seasonal lull in discussion, but are the specific result of certain
leaders within this community organising a mass defection to an
inadequate forum.

In anycase, I am hoping that "The Axis" has made his last post because
it is time for him to retire along with Beans Baxtor and MayorTommy,
and that he will invent a brand new character for the comming season.

Cheers.

Dude, give it up about the mass defection bit ... Just think about
these factors when considering lowering levels of posting:

1. The team sux, and that is directly proportionate to the level of
posting because in the Raps case, we are a team of bandwagon following.
2. Arguments have led to misunderstandings, misunderstandings have led
to some key people leaving the group.
3. No one is carrying newsgroups anymore
4. Dejanews had an amazing UI, for those surfing from college/work,
Google could never match it.
5. People who were regular posters are now in different stages of their
lives, and I'm sure most of the college students posting then, have
moved on to busier schedules. (I'm one of them).

Altraps isn't doing all that well either. Check the Ratio of Spudz,
Scott, Ebrian and Cyber posts vs the rest, and you'll see a pretty bad
picture.

Seriously dude, let it go. This was just a place to hang out ... like
your favourite pub .. and now it's no longer there because ... no just
because period. don't chain yourself up to a tree that's destined to be
cut down.

I have already debunked all these arguments, please check the link to
the historic posting levels of this group.

The altraps people need to face the fact that not only is their project
failing, but their failure is also killing this newsgroup, no amount of
launching ad hominems at me will change this fact of objective reality.

At least your response is more intellegent that ebrian's, who continues
to use nothing other ad hominem to respond to my arguments, not being
able to do so logically.

I am not sure what you imagine I am chained to, my words are simple
enough.

Thank you for your contribution to usenet.

Cheers.

Default LAST POST - THANKS & Goodbye

WOW

This is gloomy! I've taken the whole summer off (well, since all the
signings and the worlds) because there really wasn't much to talk about
(in terms of ball) - and now, I show up and there's talk of everyone
deserting this NG!!!

Damn... There will be much to talk about and I for one don't plan on
letting this NG die. I get bored often enough at work that this helps
fill my days... The summer's been nice - watching our stinky Blue
Jays' FIGHT for second place - woohoo (who cares)...

I'm gonna check this NG daily - should people continue posting, I will
as well. Should it all stop - I'll be sad, but I will find some other
avenue - I'm sure!
