When the Prior for Tejada trade rumors came about, idiotic Cub fans cried and moaned. So Hendry backed off, and this is what Cub fans get and deserve. I was for it all the way. I took a lot of heat for my comments back then. As usual ... I was right. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune...-cubs-headlines -- -CodeThis "Spreading a little of my special sunshine, throughout usenet hell." GO BEARS!!!! |

Thing of it is, many reports were that Zambrano, not Prior, was the key to the trade. And even if Hendry had made the trade with Prior as the main player, I'd have to believe that Prior would have failed the physical that would have been required to consumate the trade. And regardless as to whether fans decried or approved the rumored trade, Hendry is the one that gets paid to make those decisions and only he is responsible for them. It's irresponsible to blame these mistakes on the emotions of fans as they should only be shown the smallest consideration in the making of trades. If he can't handle that heat, then he isn't deserving of the position of General Manager of the Chicago Cubs and he should resign immediately after he announces that Dusty Baker will not be tendered a second contract as the manager of the Chicago Cubs. |

I agree with Frank. It's easy to look back and say that Prior should have been traded, but there were 1 of 2 scenarios happening: The Cubs knew in advance that Prior was injured (most likely), in which case he couldn't be traded. Scenario no. 2 is that Prior was healthy and coming off a 2005 where he had 27 starts and had a 3.67 ERA and was poised to regain his early form. Would anyone have traded the 2003 Prior for Tejada? It's all probably moot since the rumor was that Baltimore rejected the Prior offer and insisted on Zambrano. I'm glad they didn't make that deal, both at the time and with the benefit of hindsight. |
