Francoeur's full-season line .260/.293/.449 -- ouch.

If Frenchy had one more dinger, I think his performance this year might
have qualified as the least productive 30-homer, 100-RBI season ever.

Francoeur managed to hit .239 with no runners on base, but .320 with
runners in scoring position, in addition to his very low [but perhaps
improving in the late season] walk rate. He also played every game this
year, which made it easy for him to rack up the counting stats. Plus, he
hit behind a lineup that was on base an awful lot.

I'm curious who baseball-reference will consider his similar players
after this season.

At least his throwing arm is still good...

Cheers,
Nicholas

Wonder no more, as bb-ref is updated today with 2006 stats:

and the winner is . . .Hall of Famer Duke Snider!

And may I point out how pleased I am that Ruben Sierra has been replaced
by Frank Robinson as Andruw's closest comparable?

Wow, that is an interesting list of comps. HOF, All-star, and junk. I
guess that underscores how hard it is to predict which way a 22 year old
power hitter's performance will go.

Actually, everyone on the list managed to have at least a six or seven
year career. Max West was the worst of the bunch. Jack Clark and Darryl
Strawberry are certainly Hall of the Very Good.

I would say the list bodes well for Francoeurphiles.

Cheers,
Nicholas

[sorry, it was too easy]

It's this split that most intrigues me. It could be just random; however, if
this is what happens when major league pitchers have just a little more
encouragement to throw him strikes, then he doesn't need to develop all that
much patience to become very dangerous.
