I don't know what management was thinking.
It was bad enough to have Marty and Marty (Steve Stewart trying to sound like marty)...now we get Marty and Marty2. Why does that seem like such a good thing? Did anyone else here ever do their best work while working with your dad? I sure didn't, and couldn't wait to get it over with. Now everything will be a private joke, with the fans left out of the equation. yuk.... Its bad enough that we have to rerun the same opening day game every year (cubs vs reds)..... Now this??? |

Marty will spend half his time during the game talking about the good ole days and people no one cares about. I think I'm going to puke. |

Gets the season off to a good start. The Reds should go 3-0 out of the gate. Quote:
Right now I think it's a good move. I think Thom does a good job calling the game. I think this clearly put him in line to succeed his Pop and the thought of another Brennamen calling the games for the next 30 years isn't unappealing. But I'm notoriously soft on my judgement of announcers. I just don't see it as a big deal and I'm not sure why it gets other people into a tizzy. It will be interesting to see how this affects Marty's off-topic musings. Will he tone down the nonsense and keep it a little more professional and focused with his son watching his every move? Maybe. I think it would be a big improvment if he'd just stop it with the emails. |

I honestly don't see any benefit here for the fans.
Is it possibly just to get the Reds more noticeable at a national level? Does that benefit the fans in any way whatsoever? Are the reds going to be sold soon? This reminds me of the Griffey trade.....awwww how nice that he gets to come home. Who cares?........ jd wrote: Quote:

You forgot the part that he was also considered the best player in the game when he was acquired. The Griffey deal was a good one, regardless of the 'homecoming' aspect. Quote:
You've written three posts on this topic in less than an hour. Pretty strange thing to do if you really don't care. |

How in the hell did you deduce that? Quote:
When it was done, it looked like the best swipe since Babe Ruth. Quote:
I think it's an excellent move! |

Even if it *was* done just to get the Reds more notice at the national level, that's fine too - it will make coming to Cinci that much more inviting to potential free agent acquisitions if they know that some of the national spotlight will be focused on the Reds and not on the Yankees, Mets, and Red Sox. And yes, that does benefit the fans, provided of course that said free agents make the Reds a better team. Quote:
Yep. The guy who was considered the player with the best chance to break Ruth's record, basically for Mike Cameron who we weren't going to use anyway. Quote:
Which move do you mean here, the Griffey trade, or Thom rejoining (yeah,I said rejoining...after Thom graduated from Ohio U he did play-by-play for the Reds with his dad back in the late 1980's before he defected to the Cubs and, later, the D-Backs) his dad in the booth? My guess is you're gonna say "both" - and I agree. People can scream nepotism all they want. Thom is an accomplished broadcaster in his own right. If it had been Joe and Jack Buck or Skip and Harry Caray I'll bet the subject wouldn't even have been raised. John D, Kasupski, Tonawanda, NY Reds Fan Since The 1960's http://kc2hmz.net |

Both. Although the Griffey trade hasn't worked out, At the time, it was a great deal. |
