Either he was healthy and the rib excuse is just an excuse, or his rib was
really hurt, in which case, he should have been put on the DL and let
someone else pitch. Funny how the rib injury seemed to pop up in the first
inning, and then settle down. So far the Morris experiement did not work
out. The Angels gave up on the older Weaver halfway through the season.
Will the giants give up on Morris? In any event, if the giants can afford
Schmidt they should stick with him if he will take a 2 year contract? If
the giants dont sign he will go to the ?Dodgers, Padres, Yanks, Boston,
Oakland, (probably not oakland) Anaheim, Texas, Houston? Mets? Atlanta?
Baltimore? Philadelphia?

I agree about Schmidt .... try to resign him to a 2 year deal. I heard that
he ma want to play in Seattle near his roots.

Maybe .. hopefully .. Morris will be better next year, particularly his
number of walks. Maybe we'll have a pitching coach that can help him.

You're wrong on the walks. Morris walked by *far* the fewest batters
among the 5 starters this year (Cain walked by far the most per inning).
His problem was that his pitches were too hittable. He'd make a good
batting practice pitcher. ;-)

I think he might have been thinking that Morris hit a lot of batters. So his
control
appeared to be worse than it was. Or it was bad just at the wrong time.
Same
with good Old Jamie Wright.

I didn't say that Morris had walked the most batters .. but he needs to cut
down on his walks. His Number of BB in 2005 was 37 .. in 2006 it was 63.

I don't know why you're so focused on his walks. This year he walked 63
hitters in 33 starts; that's less than 2 walks per starts. He had a
career year last year in not allowing walks, but his career average is
58 walks per season, so he wasn't that far off. Lowering his walks from
2 per starts to 1 per starts won't make much difference if he's so
hittable. It'd help more if he can lower his WHIP, which he set a
career high this year. btw, he was the best among all Giants pitchers
this year, including relievers, at not walking people (except Accardo,
who's not a Giant anymore), so Morris is like the last person on the
team who should work on not walking hitters.

Yup.

By all logic, Schmidt should be with the Yankees next year -- he's been
better than Zito, and those are the best two out there, IIRC. OTOH, as
I've said, I'd stay away from Schmidt; he's been worked very hard, and I
wouldn't be surprised if he has relatively little left.

And it probably goes without saying that if the Yankees target him, and
he's not averse to NY, he'll be in pinstripes.

Here's a question: What do Matt Morris, Mike Metheny, and Steve Kline have
in common? They were all involved in the game 5 loss to the Giants in the
2002 NLCS.

Kline gave up the hit to Kenny Lofton that lost the game for the Cards.
Metheny was behind the plate.
Matt Morris started the game. He also started game 1 where I think that he
gave up 8 runs in the first 3 innings.

These three guys are losers. Ok, I'm overstating my case, but it's only
because the local media makes these guys out to be people whose shit doesn't
stink. I'm tired of it. Metheny is overrated; if he's so good why have the
Giants sucked since he's been on the team? He must have naked pictures of
the wives of the various media people as blackmail...that's all I can think
of....

The Giants need to get rid of guys of this ilk and develop young talent.

Well, a lot of people think the Giants should bring back BB for an
encore year with a revised cast of "the usual suspects" so we can all
enjoy another losing year as we watch *him* chase the record.
