There's something odd to me about MLB wheeling out Tommy Lasorda to do
these ads encouraging fans of eliminated teams to still follow the postseason. It's funny inasmuch as Fox spends all its time tryingto appeal to younger demographics with all of their sound effects and graphics and whatever else, and so then they bring out a guy for whom younger demographics included newly retired baby boomers. But it's the message that makes me laugh. When Fox had a subway series years ago they had such terrible ratings outside NY that they had to give away free ads to make up for the shortfall and tried blaming the Nielsen company for bad sampling. Now that we have a potential subway series again, they're begging everybody else's fans to keep watching. Colin |

I liked the part with him coaxing the BoSox fan out from behind a locked door by saying (paraphrasing), "This is the time of year to root *against* the Yankees." And if it is a NY vs. NY WS, it's called a "sewer-way series".:-) |

seriously, if they don't do something about this in the cba, they're going to have to make two leagues: ny, boston, chicago and la in one league, everyone else in the other. -- Ben |

Yeah this looks aweful what with chicago and the red sox doing so well this post-season and the dodgers not far behind. And the mets have such a long history or recent post season success. dick -- ya know, if Randy Johnson's back explodes tonight, it's possible for the evil empire to actually not make the playoffs. Then george can trade ARod to some deserving team to get rid of the curse. Chipper + something for ARod --- I'd do it. |

Is this one of those old people moments where I should just smile and pat Gramps on the head or should I go ahead and tell Dick that the Yankees are currently playing in the playoffs? |

Maybe he thinks the playoffs don't really start until the LCSs? Eh, maybe he's senile. I'd trade Chipper and something not insubstantial for ARod. In a heart beat. s/ |

That would be a possible explanation-- or it could be that I typed playoffs when I meant world series. dick -- you know, like the baseball playoffs used to be in days of yore. |

My original idea on this a few years ago was for them to dissect the Yanks and Mets and create the NYLB. [Slogan: EVERY Series is the Subway Series!] But I guess you would have to have some slight variation. And it'd be a shame to lose the Yanks/Sox blood feuds. So maybe NYY, NYM, Boston and... some other team we wouldn't miss. The Phillies, to balance the league loss? The Jays for closeness of geography? |

The Devil Rays are from Steinbrenner's hone town and they wouldn't be missed. They aren't even major league. The Dodgers used to be from NY so they have some historical reason to be part of the picture. How about the Twins? Any team that had Hrbek should be a candidate for contraction ^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H this new opportunity. Oh, and of course the Cubs are always an option. Oh, and with such a wonderful league, probably Fox should broadcast their games and use Tim McCarver exclusively. dick -- then some other network could do RotWLB (Rest of the World). |
